Israel announce a 48 hour halt of airstrikes in Lebanon. Frankly I'm thinking that's a mistake. All it does is give HizbAllah a chance to regroup and get resupplied. I'm sure Israel is doing this from international pressure, it's just unfortunate that pressure just helps the terrorists.

Edit: Should we take bets on how long this will REALLY last?

Perhaps they need to regroup, themselves.

Or it just clears the air. When the rockets fly from Lebanon, the world, and Israel, will have a clearer view on their origin. It's only 48 hours after all.

Think of it as an Eddie Murphy break.

Remember, this is not a ceasefire.

This is Israel ceasing air operations, while HizbAllah can continue to fire with impunity. Or re-arm with longer range weaponry. We won't really know until they hit.

I think it's just a localized truce - in the area (Qana) that had the bombing. According to BBC Israeli planes are still doing bombing runs in other areas of Lebanon and ground forces are still engaging Hezbollah.

Though I think Israel had the right to go after Hezbollah after the cross border incursion and this seems to be an act of frustration on their part it's going to end up in a loss for them. Hezbollah is as much an ideology as it is a physical entity and ideologies die hard. There are still National Socialist (and not the stupid skin heads in America, supporters (the combination of strong nationalistic loyalties with a social structure to protect the economy which in turn protect a racially "pure" portion of the society) and adherents to Communism, even though both those ideaologies were stamped out last century. And note the price it took to eliminate those two ideologies.

Each errant bomb, dead child portrayed on the news, destroyed bridge is just fuel for the Islamists propoganda campaign to raise recruits and money. It becomes editorial content for those in the West who despise Israel, be it for their proxy state status to the US or other reasons. In the end nothing will have changed except for a lot of civillians will have died. The borders will remain, Hezbollah might observe whatever truce is arranged for a few years and then ignore it.
