Port of Seattle Terminal Evacuated
08.16.2006, 05:18 PM
Authorities set up a half-mile perimeter around a terminal at the Port of Seattle on Wednesday after bomb-sniffing dogs indicated that at least one container recently unloaded from a ship could contain explosives.
Dozens of personnel were evacuated from Terminal 18, on Harbor Island south of downtown Seattle, a port spokesman said. A bomb squad was set to examine the container and determine its contents.
The container was taken off the ship because of questions about a manifest, port spokesman David Schaefer said.
"The bomb-sniffing dogs did what bomb-sniffing dogs do, and it caused us to be worried there might be explosives," Schaefer said.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Mike Zolzer said the container was supposed to contain oily rags, but authorities apparently found items that did not match that description.
Zolzer said he did not know where the ship originated.

An X-Ray scan of the two containers on this shipment from Pakistan did not support the shipping manifest statement that the containers had only oily rags, reports FNC's John Gibson.

Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

Why would shipping containers be full of oily rags? We have plenty of those here, don't need them shipped from Pakistan

There are a bunch of reasons to ship oily rags to Seattle-including turning the container around and sending it on with other containers to another destination. Oily rags could be inbound for recycling into packaging, for oil extraction, or a lot of other things.
However... a lot of explosives can give the appearance of something that's leaking oil-think about the letter bomb posters of old... This is not good.

Are Americans going to be paranoid now for how long? jeez..
Wake me up when they're back to normal. 300 million people and every one of the deadly afraid of becoming a terrorist target and yet they happily drive to work.
Chill people. Already the US is annoying - along with the UK - because of the paranoia. Something is probably going to happen. That's the only true thing I've heard Rumsfeld say. But there is no need to concern yourself about it.
There are better odds winning the lottery than dying in a terrorist attack. Anyone play the lottery? Oh right.. you probably think you're going to win there. That explains it.
Carry on. Show some *real* paranoia. Make me proud.

Spain was conquered before by Muslims, right? And more recently the Spanish people surrendered to Islam. All that's left to do now is to change the parliamentary monarchy to a government that is in line with Islam and set up a system to pay the jizya and you'll really be able to kick back and laugh at us.

In Islamic law, jizya or jizyah (Arabic: جزْية) is a per capita tax imposed on adult males of other faiths under Muslim rule.

No, but the Iberian peninsula was partly occupied by Moors for some time. Until Spain kicked them out. And wiped them out.
When the Moors invaded there was no Spain, rather the peninsula was made up by a number of small kingdoms. Almost immediately after the Moors starrted occupying the land, Asturias was founded in the north. Along with Navarra, it was never conquered by the Moors and from it came the current kingdom of Spain, which united the country in 1492 under Castilla and León and Aragon.

No, not really. In other news the American people surrendered to terrorists because Americans are spineless cowards.
You bore me with that bullcrap.
