Bomb Scare On British Airliner

A British passenger jet has been diverted to Italy's Brindisi airport after a bomb scare.

The Excel Boeing 767 was reportedly flying to Hurghada in Egypt when the pilot raised the alarm.

The plane landed safely and the passengers and crew have disembarked.

Anti-terrorist units are now searching the plane, which had taken off from Gatwick airport in Sussex.

CNN reports that security checks are still being conducted and that possibly a bomb note had been found written on the back of an airsick bag.

If someone wrote that as a joke and put it in the seatback to be found later I hope they don't get punished too badly.

A British passenger jet has been diverted to southern Italy after a bomb scare.

The Boeing 767 was flying to Hurghada in Egypt when the pilot raised the alarm.

He contacted air traffic controllers in Zagreb, who ordered him to land at Brindisi airport.

The plane touched down without incident and the passengers and crew disembarked safely.

Anti-terrorist units immediately searched the Boeing but found no explosive device.

The plane, which is operated by package holiday firm Excel, had taken off from Gatwick in Sussex.

Italy's air force says it scrambled a F-16 fighter to intercept the jet before it landed.

The emergency comes after UK police foiled an alleged bomb plot to blow up US-bound flights from Britain.
