Apparently conservatives are more romantic.

Simply put, liberals have a big baby problem: They're not having enough of them, they haven't for a long time, and their pool of potential new voters is suffering as a result. According to the 2004 General Social Survey, if you picked 100 unrelated politically liberal adults at random, you would find that they had, between them, 147 children. If you picked 100 conservatives, you would find 208 kids. That's a "fertility gap" of 41%. Given that about 80% of people with an identifiable party preference grow up to vote the same way as their parents, this gap translates into lots more little Republicans than little Democrats to vote in future elections.

Indeed, if a conservative and a liberal are identical in all these ways, the liberal will still be 19 percentage points more likely to be childless than the conservative.

Alarmingly for the Democrats, the gap is widening at a bit more than half a percentage point per year, meaning that today's problem is nothing compared to what the future will most likely hold. Consider future presidential elections in a swing state (like Ohio), and assume that the current patterns in fertility continue. A state that was split 50-50 between left and right in 2004 will tilt right by 2012, 54% to 46%. By 2020, it will be certifiably right-wing, 59% to 41%. A state that is currently 55-45 in favor of liberals (like California) will be 54-46 in favor of conservatives by 2020--and all for no other reason than babies.

Maybe it's because they're:

1. Gay and not procreating
2. Pro-choice and aborting their kids
3. Femi-Nazis won't have kids

What a great article - Republicans have more MOJO!

I was lying in the bath the other day and, as is usual when one lies in the bath, thoughts turned to Heather Graham and annoying/deporting/torturing liberals.

I concluded that it was actually libs who stole Austin Powers' mojo. Which led to the conclusion that this is what libs do - steal mojo... ...it's their main gig. Because they haven't got any of their own and they need to get it from somewhere.

Your post confirms this theory.

At least Republicans can afford to have kids - which is why we don't have to use birth control.

Liberals can afford them too -- but they don't like the look of baby seats in the back of their sports cars.

Which still get better mileage AND are better looking than those SUVs. More reliable, too, since they're foreign.

Who cares what the corrupt politicians think? You can't hear their complaints, or the Repubs for that matter, over the beautiful purr of this Maranello built engine.

The theory the article puts forward has a major flaw - it assumes that political orientation is genetic.

I'm quite positive that many liberals come from conservative families and vice versa, or merely more politically active than their parents. Real life examples of Lisa Simpson, Alex P. Keaton, etc.

Hmm.

From Conservative Truths:
Conservative Households Have Less Income Than Liberal Households

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2003 the median Household Income across the United States in 2000 was $41,994. Only 6 out of 31 Conservative States had a higher than average median Household Income (19% of Conservative States) versus 15 out of 20 Liberal States that had a higher than average median Household Income (75% of Liberal States). The highest median Household Income in the country is found in New Jersey with $55,146. The lowest median Household Income in the country is found in West Virginia with $29,696.

That sounds like some seriously distorted stats.

You can see right here how people voted based on income, religion, race, etc.

Anyone earning $50K+ a year voted for Bush across the board.

I don't know what studies that 'fact' is based on, but that's the article's theory.

Also, it should be pretty clear the real reason why Democrats are focused on things like more illegal immigration... they need to import new voters because the home grown variety aren't going to cut it for them.

I'm in that range and I didn't vote for Bush...

Across the board? 43% voted for Kerry. What is your skewed definition of "across the board"?

There are just as many liberal Christians as conservative Christians.

Only the liberal Christians are aborting themselves further into a minority position.

You guys (KERRIGAN and DOOFY) are too much. You should have your own radio show, stand-up comedy tour, or sitcom. Something.
