This will be my last thread here for a while. I've been pretty much absent from the forums anyway for getting ready to leave. For those interested my blog while in Iraq is: http://www.greensmusic.net/blog . I encourage everyone to read it. It will be my experiences only--no politics. I also have comments active on the blog for those who would like to do so. This is also my way of communicating with family and friends all over the world without sending 50 emails a day. So I expect a lot of comments from family, but comments from NNers are welcome too. Just be sure to mention your screen name so I know who you are.

Wherever you're heading, I'm sure it won't be as wonderful as the USA.

You know you can get help for that compulsive urge to post before reading.

Good luck, greenamp. Sounds like a very interesting trip.

Like I said in an earlier thread, keep your head (and the other end!) down and come home safe!

I had one of my troops sent to Afghanistan and another to Iraq at the same time (Comm folks, about three years ago), and it was no picnic for me as their supervisor. Not only did I personally worry about them, I professionally worried about them too. I was required to contact their families weekly and report their status to my commander. At least then the Air Force was taking seriously the "we take care of your family while you're away" issue. I hope they still do (I've been retired for quite nearly two years now).

So like I said, come home safe.

Green -

Be safe and represent us well. Remember that you and your collegues are heros to those of us at home, even though we fail to tell you most of the time.

Keep in touch when you can. I'll read your blog. Remember to convert as many Iraqis as you can... to Mac users.

And let your wife and kids know that they are heroes too. Those who stay home make sacrifices as well.

And, well, thanks!

My Nephew has done 3 tours in iraq now.

I'm sure that the first half of your comment was completely necessary.

"Hey, you're going to do all sorts of bad things, but good luck with that!"

It should've been left at, "All the best," or "I hope you return home safely."

I agree. Neither case is what this thread should be about.
