I'm curious to see if the hijacker walks out or is carried out.

Turkish plane seized in hijacking

A Turkish airliner flying from Tirana to Istanbul has been hijacked and flown to Brindisi in southern Italy, media in Turkey and Greece report.
It sent out an SOS twice in Greek airspace, and Athens scrambled four fighters to escort it to Brindisi, a Greek official told Reuters.

The Turkish Airlines plane is carrying at least 107 passengers.

Unconfirmed reports say there are two hijackers and they are protesting about plans for a papal visit to Turkey.

A Turkish Airlines plane carrying 107 passengers from Tirana, Albania to Istanbul, Turkey, was hijacked Tuesday and landed at Italy's Brindisi airport, a company spokesman said.

Private Turkish television station NTV, quoting unidentified security officials, said plane was hijacked by two Turks to protest Pope Benedict XVI's planned visit to Turkey next month.

The plane was hijacked in Greek airspace, said airline spokesman Ali Genc.

A Turkish Airlines plane carrying more than 100 passengers from Tirana, Albania, to Istanbul, was hijacked Tuesday and landed at Italy's Brindisi airport, company spokesman Ali Genc said.
The plane was hijacked in Greek airspace, Genc said.

Turkish television channel NTV, quoting unnamed security officials, reported that the plane was hijacked by two Turks to protest Pope Benedict XVI's planned visit to Turkey next month.

A spokesman for the Greek military's general staff told The Associated Press that four Greek fighter jets had been scrambled to shadow the plane after it issued a distress signal over Greek airspace.

The plane contacted Italian air traffic controllers about 5:25 p.m. and asked to land in Brindisi, according to Nicoletta Tomiselli, a spokeswoman for the Italian air traffic agency ENAV.

She said the aircraft, carrying 113 people, was escorted to the ground by two Italian military planes.

"We don't know what the situation is yet," she said.

Genc, the Turkish Airlines' spokesman, said there were 107 on board. There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy.

Ansolutely rich.

From CNN:
The passengers and crew are under no threat," Candan Karlitekin told NTV television.

Many Muslims were angered by the pope's speech at a German university last month, saying it was an attempt to portray their religion as innately violent
And these two hijack an airliner.
All men are created equal, but what they do after that point puts them on a sliding scale.

ANSA.it - News in English - Turkish hijackers surrender

Turkish hijackers surrender

Two men believed to have message for Pope Benedict (Supersedes previous story) .

(ANSA) - Rome, October 3 - Two Turkish hijackers who diverted a Turkish airliner to the southern Italian airport of Brindisi on Tuesday handed themselves over to police some two hours after landing .

The hijackers were reported to be intent on sending a message to Pope Benedict XVI .

The plane, a Boeing 737 belonging to Turkish Airlines, was intercepted and escorted to Brindisi airport by two Italian military jets .

Turkish Airlines said the plane had been hijacked while travelling from the Albanian capital of Tirana to Istanbul but said none of the 113 passengers and crew abroad had been hurt .

"The passengers and crew are under no threat," airline chairman Candan Karlitekin told Turkish television and local police sources said the hijackers were unarmed .

Shortly before 20.00 local, the plane's co-pilot disembarked from the plane and began talking to police and other officials .

According to Italian national civil aviation agency ENAC, the hijackers had not behaved aggressively and had said they were ready to release the passengers .

Local government sources in Brindisi said the men were seeking political asylum .

It was unclear what the men's objectives were in hijacking the plane. ENAC sources said they wanted to give a message to the pope but gave no details of what it contained .

Turkish television said the hijacking was in protest at Pope Benedict's planned trip to Turkey in late November .

It said the hijackers had wanted the plane to land in Rome but were forced by the Italian military jets to divert to Brindisi .

But the same television network later said one of the men had written to the pope, saying he was a Christian and wanted to avoid military service in Turkey .

Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim said there was nothing to support the view that the two men wanted to protest against the pope's visit to Turkey at the end of November .

Turkey was one of the Muslim nations to protest last month when the pope made controversial comments about Islam during a lecture at a German university .

Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said the Vatican had been alerted and was waiting for details. Another well-placed Vatican source stressed that the pope's visit to Turkey would go ahead as planned, regardless of the reasons for the hijacking .

Authorities in Istanbul identified one of the two hijackers as Hakan Eknci and the other only by his first name Mahmut .
I wonder what Mahmut's message was for the Pope. 'We're idiots?'

In all honesty Conan has nights where he goes coooooold.

Ferguson is just silly. He doesn't take himself seriously, likes to pile onto jokes. I like it, but I sometimes wonder if his accent isn't half the charm.

Ferguson is pretty good. He's way better than Kilborn was. (Actually, so is Jon Stewart. We need to replace Craig Kilborn more often.)

You know I didn't mind Kilborn, but he was too cocky and probably too flamingly conservative for most people.

Great, now you officially have no purpose here.

BTW, I wonder what Italy did to deserve this. As we all know it's not the terrorist, but the people who they attack that are at fault.

You aren't supposed to give away the answers to capers, that's not how capers work.

I guess I'll just have to sleuth about whether you are gay or a Liberal or something...

I don't know how to say this...but your sleuth skillz leave something to be desired.

Your last two capers were solved only after the subjects admitted their guilt.

Not saying you suck at this. It's just that there's no evidence you don't.

You must work 2nd shift. I always see you here when it's really late.

So, where are you from? Don't tell me "Canada".

For some reason I imagine you're from a yankee state. Maybe Massachusetts.

You aren't hip enough to be from the south. Well, that and we don't have clarinets down here.

Hmm, a turkish christian hijacks a plane, in order to convince the pope to convince the turkish nationalistic government to not further try to enforce him to serve in the turkish military?
