I think Muslims and child molestors have been the dominant theme of the news for this decade.

What do you think has defined this decade so far, in terms of news coverage?

So far I'd call it the decade of the Republican. It's when we really got to see what Republicans would do in the US and the world when they have the power.

The kidnappings of attractive young white women? Or does that fall under the "molestor" category?

Decade of molesters. Decade of Republicans. Same difference.

(That was a current events joke, not necessarily a truth, so don't get your panties in a wad.)

Okay, Muslims, Molestors, and Republicans. But how do you package all of this into a catchphrase, like the "Roaring 20s"?

"I was dismayed and shocked to learn about Congressman Foley's unacceptable behavior," Bush said during a visit at an elementary school in Stockton, California.

George Bush claimed to have seen the first plane hit the World Trade Tower on a television in Booker Elementary School before going into a classroom to hear some children read.

President Bush speaks at Townsend Elementary School in Tennessee

hmm... Anyone see a pattern?

Maybe if it was more accurate, like "terrorists, molesters, and Republicans" we could see a real trend.

Of course, given our "global village," restricting the trends to American events is dumb.

Obviously, this decade's touchstones will be terrorism, reaction to terrorism (in Afghanistan), and over-reaction to terrorism (torture, gulags, domestic spying, Iraq, etc).

Actually, the common denominator between extreme Muslims, Americans interested in child molestors and woman murderers, and (extreme) Republicans is stupidity.

So maybe we should just call this the really stupid decade.

I'm betting this will be the decade of Zima. I think it's going to come back in a big way!

Have we come up with a catch-phrase for the 80s yet?

Molesters have been doing their thing for a while now, before it just got ignored by the church.
