This is the best damn political/current events show on the radio. It's everything the media should be in a free society, but is clearly not. If you listen to this show for 2 weeks it will change your view of the world in a huge way. I just couldn't resist plugging it here. They have a podcast, too.

I recently saw one of the hosts, Amy Goodman, speaking about her new book. She mentioned that in September, 2001, Democracy Now! was only on one radio station. Today it is carried on something like 300-400 local radio stations all over the world, plus both satellite TV networks and public TV stations. This was personally very inspiring to me, because I had thrown away my TV in disgust after Septermber 11th and the ensuing storm of lies and propaganda. Apparently I'm not alone

Meh. Like most political media, it is sometimes very good, but often retarded.

True. I'm politically inclined to be a fan of Democracy Now but honestly, 4 shows out of 5 just aren't all that interesting. The have maybe 1 really compelling story or guest per week. It's sorta filling the niche that NPR/PBS filled 15 years ago before they became heavily infused with the corporate viewpoint as well.

Some of the interviews were kinda lame.

Softball questions.

I'm unimpressed.

How the Banana Slug became UCSC's official mascot

The Banana Slug, a bright yellow, slimy, shell-less mollusk found in the campus's redwood forest, was the unofficial mascot for UC Santa Cruz's coed teams since the university's early years. The students' adoption of such a lowly creature for a team mascot was their reaction to the fierce athletic competition fostered at most American universities. UCSC has always offered a wide-ranging physical education and recreation program designed to appeal to the greatest number of students, but it has based its approach on some unusual ideas: that athletics are for all students, not just team members of major sports; that the most important goal of a collegiate physical education department should be to introduce as many students as possible to lifelong physical activities; and that the joy of participating is more important than winning.

I Love that photo. It looks like a sweet, juicy, delicious slice of ripe mango. Yum!

Refresh my memory, what happened on 9/11 that made you throw away your TV in disgust?
