I was just curious how many things under Lerk's three prong theory have come true since 2001?
He said....
How would the neocons achieve their goals?
I envision a three prong approach...
prong one: control all three branches of the government, and the intel community. Rumsfeld has already created his "CIA within the CIA" group, and the office of Homeland Security puts everything under the purview of Tom Ridge. More and more power controlled by less and less people.
prong two: quell with extreme prejudice the rights of citizens to protest by removing their access to due process, paving the road for political prisoners, like there used to be in South Africa. Sure, now its "suspected" terrorists, but how long until its anyone who disagrees with the administration? without access to legal counsel, the outside world and being held indefinitely and executed without trial, the US will have the ability to "disappear" citizens who are vocally antiadministration, and there won't be any way to prevent it since it will all be done in secret, with no protections.
prong three: rubber stamp the middle east, and then the world, in the US image. with prongs one and two in place, prong three will proceed without interference.
I know I'm extrapolating a bit, but you have to admit, everything is heading in this direction.
now, how will we know this plan is in place, or working in the coming days?
--elimination of civil liberties, weakening the ability of the citizens to stop the juggernaut
-- reshaping of the present character of the checks and balances system (like trying to stop filibustering), in such a way to advantage the executive branch over the other branches.
-- More and more "disappeared" people, along with executions in Guantanamo.
--
Also look for:
-- scenario: Bush loses the popular vote, again, and wins the electoral vote, but the chasm is wider, making it obvious the electoral college has been manipulated.
-- the rescinding of the two term presidency.
-- the permanence of US bases in Iraq as a base of operations, with the dropping of the MOAB on Syria or Iran, to "make a strong case" for submission to the US.

So, should I assume you're not Lerk, even though you have 3 posts?

I yam what I yam.
and I continue to be correct.
you may assume whatever you wish. However, I do come back every time there is confirmation of lerk's theory.

Well he won the popular vote in 2004. Or are you saying the 22nd amendment is going to repealed somehow, and then in 2008 Bush will lose the popular vote and win the election anyway?

remember this was posted in 2001, before the 2004 election.
that part of the theory proved incorrect.

I don't recall Lerk being right about anything.
In fact, he holds the record for the most times being Smacked-Down in the history of the internet.
Take your ball and leave, Lerk. Just like you did the last time your ass was handed to you.
You haven't exactly been missed.

Precious little.
He said....

I envision a three prong approach...
prong one: control all three branches of the government, and the intel community. Rumsfeld has already created his "CIA within the CIA" group, and the office of Homeland Security puts everything under the purview of Tom Ridge. More and more power controlled by less and less people.
What is this CIA within the CIA? This is the first word of it and I've seen all sorts of conspiracy theories fly about the evils of the Bush administration. This one is a new one.
The office of Homeland Security does not put -everything- under the purview of Tom Ridge (who by the way, stepped down in 2004.) It puts immigration and customs under that office, but the FBI is still the FBI, CIA is still the CIA, Congress is still Congress.
prong two: quell with extreme prejudice the rights of citizens to protest by removing their access to due process, paving the road for political prisoners, like there used to be in South Africa. Sure, now its "suspected" terrorists, but how long until its anyone who disagrees with the administration?
By saying "sure, now it's "suspected" terrorists, but how long until it's anyone" you are saying that it has NOT come true. Talk about contradicting the contention of this tread...
without access to legal counsel, the outside world and being held indefinitely and executed without trial, the US will have the ability to "disappear" citizens who are vocally antiadministration, and there won't be any way to prevent it since it will all be done in secret, with no protections.
That's a pretty badly kept secret, if you know about it. Except that it isn't the case. Our own forums member Troll would have been crying bloody murder and it would have been well-publicized by the news organizations that love nothing better than to take Bush down a notch or three.
Citizens who are vocally anti-Bush-administration have not disappeared. There are plenty. I know of no executions without trial.
prong three: rubber stamp the middle east, and then the world, in the US image. with prongs one and two in place, prong three will proceed without interference.
Except that the middle east foreign policy shift went forward without prongs one or two in place at all, making this prong also unrealized.
I know I'm extrapolating a bit, but you have to admit, everything is heading in this direction.
Because two out of the three prongs are demonstrably false by your own words and events that are uncontested and the first prong is highly debatable, I don't think anyone needs to admit that "everything is heading in this direction."
now, how will we know this plan is in place, or working in the coming days?
--elimination of civil liberties, weakening the ability of the citizens to stop the juggernaut
No one has been silenced for criticizing the government.
-- reshaping of the present character of the checks and balances system (like trying to stop filibustering), in such a way to advantage the executive branch over the other branches.
Filibusters conducted didn't even comply with rules much less the tradition of filibusters. They weren't filibusters as much as the threat of filibustering, and rather than call the bluff, congressmen negotiated to end the threat. Which is what I would expect folks in the legislative body to do. Negotiate amongst themselves.
-- More and more "disappeared" people, along with executions in Guantanamo.
Given the incidence of people being released from Guantanamo and their home countries refusing to take them (Britain....) I have to say that "more and more disappeared people" is a position worthy of scrutiny.
Also look for:
-- scenario: Bush loses the popular vote, again, and wins the electoral vote, but the chasm is wider, making it obvious the electoral college has been manipulated.
Didn't happen. Won the popular vote and the electoral vote, no obvious manipulation took place. Some bad exit polling and some dashed hopes and expectations, but nothing so sinister.
-- the rescinding of the two term presidency.
Has not happened, although former President Clinton did remark he wouldn't mind being able to run again. -- CLINTON CALLS FOR CHANGE TO 22ND AMENDMENT
-- the permanence of US bases in Iraq as a base of operations, with the dropping of the MOAB on Syria or Iran, to "make a strong case" for submission to the US.
Has not taken place.
So the thread's position was that it was time to check and see how much of the predictions had come true. The answer is "precious little."

Abe's lesson:
Did President Lincoln suspend Habeas Corpus?
Answer: Yes, in 1861 and 1862
Was Habeas Corpus ever restored?
Answer: Yes, in 1866.

six months ago (or so), a debate about the active construction of 14 american bases in iraq was brought up in the news. i'm pretty sure that absence of coverage since then doesn't mean that construction on those bases has stopped.
the MOAB wasn't dropped, but maybe the times are a'changing...
Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Bush confidant prepares way for radical shift by US on Iraq
A radical change in US policy over Iraq after the November elections appeared increasingly likely yesterday after reports that a bipartisan commission headed by a Bush family confidant will recommend an approach to Iran and Syria for help or a withdrawal to bases outside Iraq.
we, of course, won't know what the commission actually has said until after the november elections. is 'stay the course' soon to be MIA?

Also happening in the UK, a country under socialist control.

So not entirely sure where your neocon theories hold up there.

"Neocon" is a bad label for this administration's policies, though it's the generally accepted one.
To be honest, I'd say it is way closer to some kind of creepy inverted socialism.
