New York State lawmakers, in a last-minute binge of late-night legislating before the end of the session, passed a DWI law which inadvertently set the standard so low that, theoretically, even the natural latent alcohol in your body could set it off. This happened because the bill had a typo -- it stated the level at .18 grams, not .18 BAC!

At least the Monroe County DA admits that this standard is unreasonable and can't be used as a basis for prosecution....
I make typos all the time at work, but usually I'm the only one reviewing my documentation, and when I make a typo, no one gets arrested. Even with the rushed nature of the bill, hundreds of people would have had the opportunity to see it. Were they all more busy trying to get re-elected?
