I want you to vote. Republican. Democrat. Libertarian. Green. Independent. Whatever.

Just vote. Be a good citizen.

The preceding only applies if you are a legal US citizen, of course.

Anyone else can just give me money via PayPal.

I'd vote if I could.

I also want a fair election with no fraud.

That kind of goes without saying. But I agree.

Unfortunately, we'll never know whether the election war fair or not, due to Diebold secrecy and an impenetrable signal to noise ratio of conspiracy theories.

I'd still like to know why trusting our elections to a shady company found guilty of fraud in California already is a good idea.

Sorry to derail your thread. I'll shut up now.

Well, I could ask for fraud-proof voting machines for my birthday. But that's a bit like asking for world peace or the Cubs to win the World Series.

Well, a great start would be to force companies like Diebold providing this civil service to provide far more transparency, and to open source GEMS.

Happy birthday, it's my wife's birthday today too!

My locale uses NON-DIEBOLD electronic voting machines. They are not networked, they are as closed and controlled as you can get, and I trust them. We also allow voters to choose paper ballots if they prefer, but these are machine read, optically scanned ballots, so I don't see the big difference.

I for one will indeed vote (right after school) as much to do my part in shutting down the paranoia about voting machines as to have my say at the polls. Diebold needs to allow the world to validate their software (there are indeed independent means to validate the functionality and security of software) or shut up and go home. Any kiosk-type machine that's not networked should be securable, particularly if it's not running any flavor of Windows (more because Windows is so ubiquitous that its flaws are well known and thus easily exploited than because it's not the best OS for anything).

There is far more underhandedness to worry about AFTER THE VOTES ARE CAST than while they're being cast and counted, so I'm not going to be too concerned with this particular issue.

Happy Birthday to Mrs. 3c!

It's a good thing you remembered the date. Otherwise she might get really pissed off. And you probably don't want Mrs. 3c P.O.'d.

Does it count if I already voted before I read this post?
Life is like a clay pigeon -- sooner or later, someone is going to shoot you down and even if they miss you'll still wind up shattered and broken in the end.

I kind of want the opposite: Anybody who didn't look into the issues enough to come to an informed, reasonable opinion, don't vote. I do not want our leaders elected because they have nice hair or happen to belong to the right party.
