Challenger defeats Pombo in a stunner

Great news. Pombo was a highly corrupt representative -- received $37,000 from Abramoff, charged his family's vacations to the government, etc. -- who was also as ridiculously anti-environment as anyone in this forum. He wanted to eliminate the endangered species act, close fifteen national parks, supported whaling, etc.

E.g., see the website of Pete McCloskey, a Republican who came out of retirement to run against Pombo in the June primary. Or, Pombo's page on beyonddelay.org details his corruption more (planning freeways to boost his real estate's value, illegal use of campaign money, ..).

Pombo's district had a six point advantage registed Republicans versus Democrats. He's lost by six points.
