An Encyclopedia Britannica educational film on Despotism from 1946:

Interesting stuff, although the film did seem to have something of a socialist slant. Despite it's age, I think it's definitely still relevant today.

I like to pretend I'm the despot on my block sometimes.

They obviously can't play Civ very well, most people have researched Democracy by 1946 and can run Universal Sufferage instead of Despotism. Unless they've got a big enough empire to make running Police State worthwhile....

Why? Was it the equidistribution of wealth or something else?

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Sometimes I stay in Representation to keep the extra six happiness. I mean after all, if rush-building is not that important and you haven't cottage spammed much then US doesn't do much for you...
Suddenly I feel like playing...bye!

That and the portrayal of 'big business' they used. 'I'm the law around here, see!'.
I agreed with what they were saying, I just thought the way they say it was a little odd. I guess a lot has changed in the way Americans perceive politics in the past 60 years.

Sure, some of the bits were quite comical (e. g. the `book scene': but it was written in a book, so it must be true …). I think the big business part with the mean greedy boss also belongs to that category

Yeah, sure, you have to keep the historical perspective in mind …
