Airport Arrest Turns Up Nuclear Info

Associated Press 11.16.06, 12:51 PM ET

A man was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after officials say they found him carrying more than $78,000 in cash and a laptop computer containing information about nuclear materials and cyanide.

Sisayehiticha Dinssa, an unemployed U.S. citizen, was arrested Tuesday after a dog caught the scent of narcotics on cash he was carrying, according to an affidavit filed in court.

When agents asked him if he had any cash to declare, he said he had $18,000, authorities said. But when agents checked his luggage, they found an additional $59,000. When they scrolled through his laptop, they said they found the mysterious files.

At a court hearing Wednesday, Dinssa was ordered held in custody until at least until Monday at the request of prosecutors.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Leonid Feller argued Dinssa was a potential risk to the community and federal agents want to get a warrant to search his computer more thoroughly, The Detroit News reported Thursday. U.S. Magistrate Donald Scheer approved Feller's request to detain him.

Dinssa, who is from Dallas, arrived in Detroit from Nigeria by way of Amsterdam and was headed for Phoenix, Feller said. He is charged with concealing more than $10,000 in his luggage, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, the Detroit Free Press reported.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday with his lawyer, Leroy Soles.

If he had been more careful and had no narcotics scented cash on him, we'd have been unable to detect him.

As for stopping him?

Impossible.

That's why our new Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi's suggestion is so chilling.

...speaker of the House...Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., wants to criminalize FBI and Customs Service profiling of Muslim terror suspects.

"Since Sept. 11, many Muslim Americans have been subjected to searches at airports and other locations based upon their religion and national origin," she said. "We must make it illegal."
Why?

So we can allow people who hide behind the majority of moderate Muslims and who might have learned from Mr. Dinssa's arrest how to avoid detection, so we can allow these guys who want us dead, to have a loophole they can quietly walk through as they go about planning our demise?

San Fran Nan.

And let's not forget this...

Pelosi has also promised Muslims she'll "correct the Patriot Act," one of the most valuable tools the FBI has in ferreting out jihadist cells lurking in Muslim communities.

Conyers is one of the top recipients of donations from the Arab-American Leadership PAC. And not surprisingly, he has a long history of pandering to Arab and Muslim voters.

During the first Gulf War, for instance, Conyers fought FBI outreach efforts in the Arab and Muslim community in Detroit that were designed to gather intelligence on potential cells and protect the home front. Conyers and other Detroit-area Democrats at the time, David Bonior and John Dingell, threatened to hold hearings unless the FBI stopped counterterrorism interviews.

The FBI met with them privately to explain the national security benefits of outreach, but could not allay their concerns. In the end, the FBI backed off. Today, Hamas, Hezbollah and the al-Qaida-tied Muslim Brotherhood are all active in the area.

Expect Conyers and Pelosi to kick open the doors of Congress to Islamists from the Council on American-Islamic Relations and other militant groups. They will have unfettered access, even though many of their leaders have been tied to terrorism (some CAIR officials have landed in the big house).

In 2003, Conyers hosted the first dinner on the Hill that celebrated the end of Ramadan for such Muslim leaders. It's now a tradition. Incoming Democrat freshman Keith Ellison, a Louis Farrakhan disciple and first Muslim member of Congress, will no doubt expand the invitation list.

Conyers has also sponsored one of the Islamists' favorite bills in Congress. HR 635, which has 40 co-signers, would create a select committee to investigate President Bush for allegedly manipulating prewar intelligence and torturing al-Qaida detainees. The goal of his bill is to build grounds for impeachment.

Conyers led the defense of Bill Clinton in last decade's impeachment hearings and is clearly out for blood. So are many of the constituents he serves.

You're more likely to be randomly searched at the airport is your white.

At least it seems that way when I'm there.

What is "Nuclear Information?" I'm curious. Was it internet information? High-tech info? No details are given.

Need I trot out the old information on terrorists arrested and charged through the government's reduction of rights and freedoms in the name of national security? Despite all the fearmongering, the numbers are hardly worth talking about.

Frankly if someone wants you dead I'm not terribly worried. At least it would end the steady stream of insanity in here. Although coming from a man who doesn't believe in freedom and rights, is scared shitless of the death of our fantastic society, and like to post-and-run.. I'm not terribly surprised.

So racial profiling is okay because arabs blow things up. Better watch out marden I think the black people are after us next.

Some of my black friends would disagree. Some others would say, 'damn right.'

I like to toss this idea in whenever someone brings up "profiling".

Doesn't this word describe activities ranging from a wise consideration of prior circumstances all the way to criminal harassment?

IOW a certain amount of profiling is required to efficiently use limited resources. Too much profiling is detrimental to one's goal and can be done to the point of being a crime.

We need different words to describe these two things.

Yes, I'm sure they don't value freedoms and rights at all.

As long as they aren't their own. Ah, so easy to throw stones.

I am slowly waking up to see and appreciate your perspective on many things. Wow!

It wasn't profiling that caught him... It was the narcotics.
