What if I told you that a member of Osama bin Laden’s inner circle operated with impunity within the United States for years before September 11? That despite being an ardent and avowed jihadi, he managed to become a naturalized citizen, to join the US Army, to get posted to the Special Warfare Center where Green Berets and Delta Force train, and to work with both the CIA and the FBI? And all the while he was a top al Qaeda operative, hosting its second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahiri when he traveled to the US in the 1990’s to raise money, and training both bin Laden’s personal bodyguard and radical Muslims who would go on to assassinate Jewish militant Meir Kahane and detonate a truck bomb at the World Trade Center? Would you take it as evidence that our so-called intelligence community was abjectly incompetent and dysfunctional in the months and years before 911? Or would you see it as further proof that the powers-that-be were the powers behind 911, either “making it happen on purpose?” or alternately “letting it happen on purpose?”

There is a new book out which has EXPLOSIVE revelations about the cause of the 9/11 attacks and in case someone is petty enough to try to cite me for a Rule 8 you can kiss my butt.

Here's how I feel about the subject matter I am introducing: WE SHOULD BECOME INFORMED ABOUT THIS AND SEE WHERE IT LEADS.

This book is #6 on the NYT Bestseller List and is published by a reputable publisher and the author has impeccable credentials.

Gee. This is productive. Instead of looking at the future in what to do in Iraq, let's focus on the past over and over and over again.

No wonder the right can't get anything done. They're too busy trying to blame things on Clinton instead of fixing their own screw ups.

Once you wanted revolution, now you're the institution, how's it feel to be the man?

If a jihadist was able to infiltrate our government I think it's in everyone's interest to understand how it happened and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Looks pretty simple to me. He acted as a double agent.

It wouldn't be the first time. The Soviet Union used to have spies in the U.S. State Department, the Treasury Department and the White House.

This would certainly be an unusual way of doing it. Much easier to turn someone who is already an American citizen, preferably someone who was born here, preferably someone who is already in the position you are interested in.

The only way you could make sure this doesn't happen is to eliminate money, booze, drugs, and hookers.

That's actually very interesting from numerous point of views. It shows that the US-agencies involved tried to use a radical islamist as a double agent, and that the agent instead worked as a triple-agent.

But I guess in order to infiltrate the radical islamists, the US-agencies had to take risks.

It surely didn't prevent the embassy-bombings in Africa, quite to the contrary the triple-agent might have even helped to organise them.

But eventually he got taken off the street in 1998 after the embassy-bombings...

Well, he could have still been working for the US, and this triple agent story is just a cover to hide his real affiliation.

Or the US may suspect that you would realize this and is only trying to make you think he's a quadruple agent.

I heart spy stuff.

As such, it's kinda hard to make sure "this kind of thing doesn't happen again", especially when you're trying to ensure a double agent isn't a triple agent. Here's someone who is lying to his own people; you know he's a liar, how do you ensure he's not also betraying you?

Somehow, I think the powers that be know what happened. All this book will achieve is panic.
