Who are these people that don't want a female president?

I've seen this poll a few times about whether or not you would vote for a female president should a solid female candidate run, and the vast majority indicated that they would. However, at the time I was surprised that the number wasn't something like 98% or 99%. Unfortunately, Polling Report is no longer running this poll, that I can find.
WTF, who are these people that would not be in favor of a female president, and why the hell not?
It's amazing how we seem to have come pretty far, but there always remains vestiges of our past with this and other issues. I'm sure there are still plenty that believe that blacks are inherently inferior and that we should go back to slavery, that the Earth is flat, etc.
Do you know anybody like this?

I'd be in favor of a competent female president, but much of America isn't prepared for that to happen yet.

I'd be in favor of having a competent male president at the current time.
I'd vote for a woman if I believe she'll do the best job.

Misogyny runs deep and is very under the radar.
We're completely immersed in it from birth so we don't notice it as much.

Who do you think stands a better chance, an equally qualified woman or black person?
I don't really care what this president is or says he/she is. Bush gained from saying that he is a Christian, but that has proven to be pretty much meaningless.

Who are these people? Why they are the millions of men AND women in this country that feel very uncomfortable with a woman in such a powerful position. Ask them to explain why... and they can't. Because they don't know why... they just know that it doesn't feel right. Goes back to what subego said. We are brainwashed from an early age that men are somehow superior in authoritative positions.

It's a shame that there are so many conformists (men and women) in this world.

I'm not sure it's really conformist, though there are obviously aspects of this. It's usually subtler than that.
Not being willing to vote for a woman is only a particularly unsubtle expression.
I could probably come up with a few things that you either choose to let slide, or are more or less forced to let slide because there isn't really anything inherently wrong with it, except when it's taken in the context of the existent all-pervasive misogyny.
Pornography is the most obvious example, though perhaps you are immune to its allure.
Uhh, I know I am. Yeah, that's it.

The thing is, there really are differences between the sexes. Like, significant mental, biological and cultural differences — basic matters that shape who we are. Some people (including women) believe that these differences make women generally less suitable for the presidency than men. I don't happen to hold that opinion, but I can kind of see how one would come to it.

If we had a female president, we wouldn't have invaded the middle east for oil.
We'd be invading Côte d'Ivoire for cocoa.

I'd be in favor of a competent President. I don't particularly care what gender said President is.
I do not believe Hillary would be a competent President: aside from her ideology being as disastrous as Bush's (though in different ways), I also have doubts that she would repair the damage Bush has done: she would simply heap her own unique brand of damage on top of it. Rice edges her out slightly, simply because while she wouldn't repair Bush's damage, at least she would not add anything new to the mix.
This is the main reason I'm hoping for McCain/Obama or Guiliani/Obama: either way such a race goes, we end up with a relative moderate who would be interested in repairing the damage Bush has done. The fact that they both happen to be male is irrelevant.

I don't care if the person is white, black, male or female but I do care about is if the person is a good leader and works to keep the US moving forward economically, technology and socially. I fear that we've been more concerned about "other" nations to our domestic detriment.
More and more econmoic indicators are pointing to, at best a slowing economy, at worst another recession. Lets fix our own problems and not worry about other nation's problems.

Right... ...so I didn't vote for a female Prime Minister multiple times then?
I'm pretty sure Spliffy and Kev would vote for a female Prez too. Just not Hilary.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a fine example of a Dem (olePigeon) not actually grasping reality but instead only seeing their own deluded version of things.
Is there a single properly conservative bloke out there who wouldn't want Ann Coulter as Prez? No.

I think people who responded to that poll were thinking about Hillary when they put down their answer--rather than thinking objectively about the question. You're thinking about Hillary when you started this thread right? Come on, you like her!

That would definitely not be Hillary Klinton.

I have no problems voting for a woman. I'd welcome her with open arms.
Most people just don't want Hillary in the white house.

I don't get it when people are like, "Oh, so you're not voting for the female candidate." It's just as sexist to vote for Hillary because she's a woman as it is to vote against her because she's a woman. I'm not going to support a bad candidate just because some people want to project their sexism onto me.

Who the hell says America isn't prepared?
We've never been given the opportunity. Where's the almighty DNC's list of past presidential nominees? I thought they supported "equal rights".

As my friend, who's both a woman and a registered Democrat, told me yesterday: "If they run a woman or a black man, I'm jumping ship. There are too many hicks around, and we need someone electable!"

A lifelong Democrat friend of mine contends that the first woman President will be a Republican.
Her logic goes like this:
Women and men Democrats will vote for her because she's a woman, and Republicans will vote for in favor of a Democrat male candidate because they'll vote for a woman before voting for a Democrat.
There, everybody offended? Sexism for some, partisanship for others!
