He looks like the only person that will be able to seriously challenge Hilary (Hence, I really hope he runs)

I really, really hope Obama runs, if only because it'll force the Republicans to send out either McCain or Giuliani against him. If that happens, then no matter who wins we'll have a relative moderate in office with a keen interest in repairing the damage that Bush has done.

I am from Illinois and support Obama.
My only concern is his lack of experience. Doesn't mean it won't make him a fantastic president, which I think it would.

Wasn't Reagan the Governor of California and also president of the screen actor's guild?
Arnold - well, he saved humanity dozens of times - it's in all those historical videos.
OTOH Obama sounds too much like Osama and only one letter away. I predict failure based solely on that.

Yeah Obama is a pretty damn bad last name. Maybe he could use his middle name - I wonder what it is, it can't be as bad as Obama.

LOL, very funny, with only one little beautiful mistake: You can't replace your last name with your middlename, or can you?

California seems to have this thing about electing actors to the governorship. Reagan was governor there for eight years. Clinton's only experience before this was twelve years: an extra term over Reagan's, but with comparable duties.
As for Obama's last name, rumor has it that his campaign managers tried to get him to change his name and he refused. He insisted that if he couldn't get elected with his name as it stands, then the American people weren't ready for him. I've got to say, he has a point.

If he runs against McCain, all he has to do is compare McCain to McCain Fruit Punch. If he runs against Rice: Riceroni or Uncle Ben's without soy sauce, Guliani... ummm, maybe compare him to an inexperienced rubber tire, and Frist to a yo-yo...
Done and done!
Not every last name can rhyme or have a direct association, okay? Leave me alone you relentless anti-besson3cs!
Besson3c for 2008!

Here's a question for you all: which name is more unfortunate for a Presidential candidate... Obama, or Vilsack?

Barack Hussein Obama ?
Sorry, but if you have such an unpatriotic name, you won't make it far in Amaraca.

Given the number of racist wackos in this country, he'll probably be assassinated by some redneck McVeigh/Kaczynski-ish Republican during the campaign trail.

He gets extra points for the Jr.
It would be worse if his full name was Barack Hussein Obama ben Gadhafi

Ah, the beloved governor of Iowa. I've shaken his hand many a time. He hasn't royally screwed up Iowa, so I have nothing against him politically. He doesn't seem very charismatic though, from when I've talked to him or heard him speak.

Unpatriotic? Or non-Anglo? Or are the two synonymous in your view? The sad thing is that even though it's 2006, I would be surprised to see him capture the Democratic nomination let alone the general election. There simply are too many Americans who can't get past his skin color and/or non-Anglo name for that to happen. A shame though considering how the man's ideas are just what this country needs.

godennis has already endorsed Dennis Kucinich for President of the United States in 2008. Kucinich has already announced he is in the running. Obama will have to catch up with him when (if) he also decides to run for President.

Bush didn't have any experience, and look how well that turned out. Go Obama!
Anyway, I think we have a good idea how the Republicans are going to play the next election.
Talking Points Memo: by Joshua Micah Marshall December 11, 2006 08:32 PM: JEFF GREENFIELD: The senator was in New Hampshire over the weekend, sporting what's getting to be the classic Obama look. Call it business casual, a jacket, a collared shirt, but no tie.
It is a look the senator seems to favor....
But, in the case of Obama, he may be walking around with a sartorial time bomb. Ask yourself, is there any other major public figure who dresses the way he does? Why, yes. It is Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who, unlike most of his predecessors, seems to have skipped through enough copies of "GQ" to find the jacket-and-no-tie look agreeable.
And maybe that's not the comparison a possible presidential contender really wants to evoke...
[...]
GREENFIELD: Now, it is one thing to have a last name that sounds like Osama and a middle name, Hussein, that is probably less than helpful. But an outfit that reminds people of a charter member of the axis of evil, why, this could leave his presidential hopes hanging by a thread. Or is that threads? -- Wolf.

Serving as the governor of Texas isn't experience? Again, there's less quantity here than Clinton or Reagan, but the duties are comparable.
