I know of a guy that was diagnosed with cancer in his toe when he was 32. Because of his religious beliefs he refuseed to have the toe amputated. 4 years later the cancer had spread all over his body and killed him. No one can prove for sure that getting the toe amputed would have saved him... but it certainly seems plausible that it would have at a minimum extended his life.

Personally, I'm ready to do just about anything to cheat death as long as I maintain a good quality of life.

Anybody here have a belief system that dictates medical treatment? If so, do you think you would actually abide by it if it came down to a life or death situation?

I don't belong to a belief system that forbids medical treatment, but if I believed it were wrong, of course I would refuse it. For instance, if there were some treatment that required innocent people to die so I could live, I wouldn't go through with that (or at least I really don't think I would). His belief seems irrational to me, but the choice he made seems right to me given the premises.
