Monica Lewinsky Earns Master's Degree in London
Thursday , December 21, 2006
Monica Lewinsky, the former White House intern made famous for her affair with former President Bill Clinton, has graduated from the London School of Economics, Reuters reported.
Lewinsky, whose antics with Clinton led to his impeachment, will be looking for jobs in Great Britain, her publicist Barbara Hutson told the news agency.
At 32, the San Francisco native received her master's degree in social psychology last week.
"The audience of students and parents erupted in spontaneous applause ... It was a very emotional moment for her," Hutson reportedly said.
She said Lewinsky spent this year studying and "staying away from the London social scene."

Um... OK. Good for her. I didn't know the London School of Economics offered a degree in Social Psychology, but whatever. Congrats.

The last I'd heard of her she was selling purses made by her own company. So this is a surprise and she has an advanced degree and all. That means I needn't worry about her anymore. (That little place in the back of my mind, a place we all have I suspect, which is reserved for people we are concerned about and hope will do well and be happy, is now less crowded.)
This officially moves her on to the next chapter of her life and two steps away from "the deed."

Write a book on what made Bill abandon her the way he did and lie under oath and why America still loves him.
I think it would be a HUGE seller.

Dear Readers,
I just got a rule 8 infraction by OreoCookie (Big Surprise ) for the opening post of this thread.
I think there is a point in Rule 8, generally. But in this case what more should I have said about the news item? At what point does OC's obsession with me end?
He tells me to stop violating rule 8.
SOMEONE needs to tell him there are some items which are P/L worthy but do not lend themselves to anything more than stating one's opinion.
If he can not understand this he needs to stay out of the business of moderating the P/L.
I have told him I would leave him the Fark alone if he would just stay out of my way. I think if you will notice he only does this type of crap when none of the Admins are around. I guess when Demonhood leaves for the weekend or holidays it effectively prevents him from watching OC's sneaky little power plays.

Tough call. Rubbing the Rule 8 in everyone's faces didn't help though.
Edit: I'm almost inclined to think this didn't have to be in the Lounge. Seems like a valid question for discretion on where/how to post such an article.

Used? I bet she loved being able to brag she was blowing the President of the United States. After all that's how he got caught, right?

From advertising to consumer behavior, assess market trends from people's behavior etc.
Social psychology is an incredibly powerful tool to grab people's attention and assert their reactions to products or marketing strategy.

WHO was rubbing rule 8 in everyone's faces?
I gave that some thought, too. With the POTUS and impeachment connection it HAD to become a political discussion eventually. That's why I posted it here.

OK, back to Monica.
That degree must be really easy to obtain, since it was only like a year ago that she enrolled. I remember my contact at the LSE telling me how fat Monica actually is in real life and asking if I wanted to meet her. Which I declined, obviously.

Oh, and rule 8 needs kicking. There's certain items of interest which could be posted in the PL which can't, by their nature, garner much of a slant from the OP.

I gather she'd have derived more pleasure meeting you than you might have in 'meating' her?

If there's any person with a valid case for changing her name, I think it would be Ms. Lewinsky. I think that after being the butt of all these jokes for all this time, it would be very hard for anyone to take her seriously in a real job, since her history will be the first thing anyone thinks of.
The only person who has a better case would be this guy.

Well, he's not harassing you because it was a rule 8 violation.
If I can get one here: http://forums.macnn.com/95/political...ary-rendition/ , then you shouldn't bitch about getting one is this thread.

Exactly. I would have had to have got a larger sh*tty stick to beat her away with when she came over all amorous and stuff. Like, you know, all "oh Doofy you're way more of a man than that lecherous hillbilly who didn't pay my dry-cleaning bills" and stuff. And she'd be no good with the cheese toasties 'coz she'd eat them before they reached the dining room table.

A couple of posts ago I asked when was the last time anyone was cited for a genuine Rule 8 violation. And here we get an answer. Although there may have been others since then.
The point of Rule 8 was to prevent thread after thread without any responses. Your 12/8/06 post attests to the need for a Rule 8 because otherwise there might be constant efforts by mods to have to prompt the OP to do what is needed to get a thread going...to post an opinion which will be something others can agree or disagree with.
Without that we are all just waiting. A fact stated by itself and without a point of view of the OP produces a "SO WHAT?" response in the readers.
A fact stated by itself ALONG WITH the point of view of the OP produces a comment of agreement or disagreement or a question.
Very few or none of my threads produce a "SO WHAT?" response in the readers.
Yet, OC uses the letter of the law in a ham handed and selective way to screw with me and to perpetuate his own petty little game while the grown ups are away.

If you think my violation is so much more deserving than yours, then it's no wonder you get so many.
Remember that I was sticking up for you a few weeks ago when I didn't believe it was a rule 8 violation. This time, however, I think it is.

Thanks for sticking up for me. But NEVER do it unless you believe I deserve your support. Some of my best chums in real life or here have told me, as I have told them, "sorry, I don't see it," or "I can't buy that." In certain cases I have understandings with people where we are DIAMETRICALLY opposed in terms of our politics but I like and respect these people and they regularly make me smile. Some don't know how I feel because I don't WANT them to feel they have to agree with me or side with me on issues unless they believe I am right. So when the times arise when they do happen to support my side of an issue I know it's not because of me. It's because they support the principle.
I want you to respect my positions more than I want you to back me in MacNN's back alleys if you don't think I am right. And I want you to know when I back you it will be because I believe you are right and with that we will go all the way without ever questioning commitment or motivation.
Loyalty is nice but it's fickle, unreliable and sometimes ill deserved.
But a principled person who stands up for a principle is hard to beat.
I will support you when I believe you are right and when the time arises that I can't I won't.
So, in this case of the Rule 8, I think you are mistaken. You think I am mistaken.
Period.
OC is wrong.

would it have been so hard for marden to post what he did in his second post of the thread, in his first post instead? That is commentary on the topic and starting a discussion.
anyway, congrats to Monica. I bet despite these modern times she will be one woman who changes her name when she gets married.

And of course you can find a reason to agree with the validity of this infraction as well.

Marden, I really am loathe to make a public statement here, but you've forced my hand.
OreoCookie has no obsession with you.
You've violated the rules repeatedly, including rule 8, and then ask for special treatment, such as asking that OreoCookie not be allowed to enforce any rules that you might break if you're involved.
I'm very sorry, but there are no special treatments available, for you or anyone else.
Wouldn't you like to think positively? Wouldn't you like to have people respond to you positively?
I'm sure that you and I understand each other.
In this thread, you could have said something about how a person grows beyond the mistakes of their past. You could have asked if people who make mistakes that mark them for life are able to rehabilitate themselves. You could have pursued a number of avenues. Instead, you chose not to.
Let's all endeavor to do better in the near future.

Nice persecution complex there, Abermojarden. You act as if you are the only one ever getting these warnings. I got one just the other day from OreoCookie myself. He's not out to get you regardless of what you might think.
As for you telling a mod he should "just stay out of [your] way", you seem to forget that posting here is a privilege NOT a right. And when you signed up for all your accounts you agreed to abide by the rules of the mods. If you don't want to play by the rules here find some other internet sandbox to play in.
