I hear about Hillary, Obama, Edwards and Kerry on the Dem side and how they are jockeying already, but I feel Gore is the one candidate for the dems who can easily walk away with the nomination. Moreover, he's experienced, vetted, and more respected by most than he was when he ran in 2000.

Watching his film, "An Inconvenient Truth" made me realize that Gore wants to achieve an objective greater than simply becoming president of the U.S., and he seems to be one of the few who can realize that goal. I hope he throws his hat in the ring.

Gore seems to have retired from politics to pursue his goal by other means, and the hell of it is that he's doing a lot better with it now than he was back in his days as a politician. Given all that, I doubt he would wish to run again. He's nothing if not dedicated to his goal.

You can bet, however, that the Democrats who do run will be falling all over each other for an endorsement from him. It would be interesting to see who, if any, he chooses.

I wish he would run. I would be nice to see a U.S. president take the environment seriously.

I called his(Gores) office yesterday, and I got the official response of "The Vice-Prsident has no plans at this time to run for the office..." However, when I jumped onto AlGore.org I found quite a grassroots effort taking shape, and this morning I got a call from a gent from that website who asked if I were interested in starting a "meetup" here on the Martha's Vineyard.

If anyone else is interested in getting involved the info is:

Cheers

Al Gore can take the environment seriously but only as seriously as his contributors and backers will allow. If he strays too far from the limits of his backers' acceptable ideology his money would disappear. Sadly, there is no candidate from a major political party that is not beholden to corporate/political entity for financial support.

I would like to see ALL non-individual giving be removed from the national political process. But that will never happen because of the crazy idea that money=speech. Not to mention that politicians like to have lots of money at their disposal for glam/glossy media presentations. What do you think would happen if financing for Presidential elections were limited to individuals with a fixed dollar cap: There is no way we could have these hundred-million-dollar election campaigns any more. And too many people have a vested interested in making money that way. Sigh!

That's not why it won't happen. It won't happen because of the crazy idea that corporation=person. Fix that, and then money=speech ceases to matter.

That discussion would be a derailment of tremendous proportions. I'll skip it for now, though. We had it once before--I think it was about two years ago--but I have not kept up on the issue so would need time to research before having that "debate".
