This is a TV show that is airing now in Canada, about a small Muslim community in the Canadian prairies, running a mosque out of the basement of a local small church.
NY Times article
BBC article
I saw it last week. It was a bit cheezy, but actually overall it was pretty good. I'm surprised actually, since a lot of CBC sitcoms suck.
Here's a scene from a future episode:
Dad: You look like a Protestant!
Girl: Don't you mean prostitute?
Dad: No I mean Protestant.
P.S. Carlo Rota is on this show, despite being on 24, which is airing at the same time. I wonder what he'll do if Little Mosque on the Prairie gets renewed (assuming he isn't killed off 24 pretty quickly).

The website clips are good. I'm not too inclined to watch this show, though. CBC news is pretty good, but their shows usually stink.

I saw the first episode. Slightly better than your standard CBC series but nothing amazing. Still, tis worth a few chuckles, and its sure getting a lot of exposure. Pretty unoriginal plotlines... we're Muslims, not terrorists, and look at these closed-minded, inbred, whiter-than-whitebread hill-billies.

Yeah, but in truth there was only one real redneck, and one Rush Limbaugh type. Most of the other Caucasians in the show were very open (including the priest), and of course there was the Caucasian muslim convert.
I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt for now. Lots of series start off less than perfect. I'm just impressed that it's noticeably better than most CBC garbage. I generally only have watched CBC for the news, sports, and documentaries.

I hope most of us see this as an example of the opposite of what you're saying, macintologist. People fitting into a new social setting do so by adapting-just as people who came to North America for many generations in the past have. You adopt the local language, yet keep your beliefs and find ways to observe your customs that don't endanger your fitting in. Having a TV show illustrate this is a sign that, rather than "Islamic hordes" overwhelming so-called Western civilization, these people are instead contributing to the local society in their own way. And the concept is kind of cool and kind of funny at the same time.

Well said, but I think macintologist may have been in agreement with you already.
