After five years of study, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that food from cloned animals is safe to eat.
Now a professor ponders about using cloned animals to help developing countries:
Animal cloning can help deliver environmental benefits in developing nations, says Professor Caletous Juma. In this week's Green Room, he argues that biotechnology could ensure the survival of rare cattle breeds that are well suited to cope with harsh conditions.
Source for both quotes: BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Developing nations need cloning
Ok, this is just an opinion-article written by a professor, but still it seems that cloning is coming in big style.
If it will one day be used extensively in farming and food-production, it won't be long till it is used to clone humans, and maybe it will be seen as the solution for those countries that have problems to maintain a 2.1 birth-rate, like west-europe and Japan.
What do you think?

I think Kerrigan started something like this in the Lounge a month or two ago.
Response was mixed but I think a slight majority was uncomfortable with the thought if not worse.
I admit I would have a very slight bit of apprehension.

Human cloning will definitely happen, but it's not a strategy for long-term survival of the species. We need genetic diversity in order to adapt to changing conditions.

I've already put down $600 for one of these (Yes, the iPhone will have to wait)
If for some reason that doesn't work, then one of these:

I don't see why anyone would want cloning. There's no way it would ever be cheaper than the old-fashioned way of making cows, or humans. Transgenics offer some value, like the goat that makes spider webbing in its milk. Clones don't offer anything.

As a cheap building material. Stronger than steel or some such. Harvesting it from spiders is more icky I guess.

I see no reason whatsoever to object to cloning in any shape or form.
