Court: Dying can be charged for using marijuana - CNN.com
If pot's all that's keeping you from dying, the courts say you'll just have to die then.
I'm not sure I buy how pot keeps her from dying. I understand the nausea argument, but not the other part. Anyone have any studies to show that pot is the secret ingredient to long life?

Those ****ers, if you're outraged but **** like this then click the link in my sig to support the SSDP. She should just get her pot from the local high school instead of going through legitimate means, which seems to be what she resolved to at the end of the article:
Raich, 41, began sobbing when she was told of the decision and said she would continue using the drug.
"I'm sure not going to let them kill me," she said. "Oh my God."

It's very sad when an exception can't be made, because of some people's rigid, dogmatic beliefs.

Well, I'm not interested in the feeding tube, but morphine is quite nice.

Actually she has a brain tumor. THC has been shown to be effective in treating glioblastomas, the most aggresive form of brain cancer. So yeah, I buy the argument that marijuana is keeping her alive.
It's funny, because I am actually examining a patent claiming the use of THC to treat glioblastomas. Here's an article:

Ridiculous. That's all I can think of to say about it.
I am a huge proponent of the legalization of Marijuana, with certain restrictions of course. There is no reason, other than some twisted form of greed, to allow cigarettes and alcohol to flow freely into our society, while prosecuting and punishing people who use a drug that is less harmful, and in fact proven to be medically helpful.
I hope her neighborhood dealers see the story and hook her up with some free bud. I know I would.

I definetly don't believe that she needs it. It's all a load of crap. She just wants and excuse. I say fine, she can sit in jail. They have the chemical in pill form. If she needs it that bad, she can take the legal pill form.
The truth is, she doesn't need it to stay alive, she just wants to stay high.

Well yeah, that is what gets you "high" and gives you the munchies.
From what I hear those pills aren't lightweight stuff either.

Can you easily get that pill form if you wanted?

You should contact her attorney and doctors; apparently they haven't thought of this yet, and they could no doubt use your expertise to guide them in properly treating her.

Yeah all the doctors are just conspiring to pretend that weed is good for you because they love to see their patients become potheads for some unknown reason. And all the law abiding patients go thru all this crap with people like you because if they don't fight the laws then it's almost totally impossible to get the stuff. Please. Come on. Any teenager can buy all they want with virtually no fear of the law and so could a sick person if all they want is to get high. It actually helps, and no the pill form is not very effective and makes you feel worse. You are so blinded by your allegiance to the republican party you can't even think straight.

Ok, let's pretend this is true.
So what? It shouldn't be the job of bureaucrats to tell her or anyone else they aren't allowed to get high.
I don't really know enough to say that pot has medical uses that can't be duplicated by other means, but it doesn't matter because it shouldn't be illegal in the first place.

Gotta agree here. Not that I am all pro pot or anything.
But making it illegal is doing more harm than good.
What pisses me off the most is when "the law" or some congressman sites how pot or whatever destroys families etc.
It's not the pot that does it, it's the LAWS that destroy families.
It's the getting busted part that does. It's the cost that does it.
If pot were legal the "destroying of families" problem would cease to exist.
What they mean is, the "War on drugs" has destroyed families.
Again not that I am pro-drug.I am not. But a good bit of people that DO abuse drugs do it out of self medication. They are going to do what they can to get by legal or not. These people WILL ALWAYS exist.
Instead of getting these people help, we are throwing them in jail and prisons.

Whoa, Kevin posted something I agree with.
Hey Buckaroo: when you're done kicking cancer patients in the gut, do you move on to sick puppies?
This whole story demonstrates the stupidity of our drug laws.

Kev you and I are in complete agreement.
If Booze and Cigs are legal and controlled by the government there is ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE SINGLE REASON pot shouldn't be in the same boat.
Maybe the lady wants to get high, who cares? She could legally smoke twelve packs of cigarettes and drink a handle of Jack Daniels but she can't smoke a joint? In what universe does that make sense?
