I've noticed that there are people who feel that fiction needs to be politically correct. An utterly asinine position to take, at least that's what I reckon.

For example, I've just been banned again from "The Forum" (formerly "Stile Project Forum" or "spf"), and although no explanation was given, the deletion of a short story I posted in the "Writers Craft" sub-forum makes the reason quite clear.

I own quite a few books. There are murderers in a lot of the books, rapists, witches, chauvinist pigs, terrorists, Nazis, religious maniacs, racists, etc., all of whom have one thing in common:

They're fictional characters. Even if you don't like what they say or do, they can't actually jump out of the book and kill you.

So, the way I see it, fictional characters in stories can be as politically incorrect as the author likes, in fact I think the more extreme and politically incorrect the characters are, the better it tends to be for the story, in general.

Thank you for not linking to the forum.

I think it is interesting that they, of all people would have a problem with non-PC writings.

Ultimately, I think you have to ask yourself why you write, and for whom you write.

It is apparently not the spf. Perhaps it's the fiction section of kuro5hin.org ?

The poll is flawed. The real question is: Should anyone have to worry about political correctness?
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

Well, there is a difference between writing politically incorrect characters and writing a book that encourages Holocaust denial. I mean, either one should be allowable in my eyes, but I can see why somebody might object to the latter kind of politically incorrect fiction.

Almost felt like spamming just bringing the place up.

Either way, boards change. When I was posting a series of similar material back in 2002, it was well received. I knew that the spf had gone down the drain since, but on the other hand, the torture.net spinoff boards I used to frequent are all pretty much dead by now, so there seems to be little choice.

kuro5hin isn't a bad idea, actually. I've had an account there for years, but never posted much.

Spamming a forum or site is more of the advertisement -for- it.

Try posting at kuro5hin. first of all, they have diaries, so you aren't likely to have stuff deleted there (I think - it's been years since I've posted there as well.) Secondly, they can vote your writing up or down, and it's more tyranny by majority than a single moderator. (Not spamming for kuro5hin here, it just seems like it's a more appropriate place than forum/torture, and definitely more appropriate than macnn, where we frown on folks using it as a blog.)

As I say, find your audience. Where you were, wasn't it.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.
