I am an independent voter. I've thrown my weight in the "none of the above" column 3 out of the last 4 presidential elections. I'm saying 1. He won't siphon off a single democrat. 2. The independents he might siphon will be mostly right-of-center, due to his blatant wing-nuttery. So the independent voter that Ron Paul will attract is much more likely to hurt the Republicans if he runs as an independent.

I doubt he'd attract more that 2-3% in a general election though -- but one can hope!

As to the newsletter thing -- his only two possible responses were:

1. "I was wholly ignorant of what was published under my name for a great number of years, therefore I'm a complete idiot,"

or

2. "I'm a racist, homophobe, Confederate Lunatic."

It's no wonder he took the idiot route, but there you have it. It'll certainly be a big issue for him, no matter how he frames it.

Not much.

Are we arguing?

Edit: That is to say that any liberal who might consider supporting Paul due to his anti-war stance should have an easy time of finding another candidate with an anti-war stance who's, say, I dunno... liberal?
