Ok, so that was the original title of my newest short story. Good attention getter, but in the end I went with the more pretentious "Jeremiad."

I was wondering, though, what you think people's reactions would be--supporters and opponents--if some racist assassin tried to or succeeded in killing Obama?

Uh…I hope everyone would think it's pretty horrible that the dude got killed. But honestly, I think there are a lot more people who have reason to hate Bush than there are people that radically racist. So if Bush has made it, I think Obama is probably OK.

I'd say that if Hillary didn't shoot Bill, O'Bama is pretty safe.

Edit... Unless some Muslim shoots him for being an apostate. So I guess my theory about Hillary is out the window.

The Secret Service is probably quite good at their job. Speaking of which, I'd hate to see a second person on these forums questioned by them.

If a racist assassin tried to kill Obama but failed it would cause a momentary media sensation which would probably benefit him in the end. By the following week, Paris Hilton or Britney Spears would have done something scandalous and people would focus their attention on that.

If the assassin succeeded I bet it would cause conspiracy theorists to surmise that McCain was behind it or Bush. It could certainly destabilize the election process even if McCain wasn't accused -- since how could it be a valid campaign with no opponent? I'm not sure what would happen but none of it would be good that's for sure.

I considered saying that they are better at it than they used to be, but just decided to use the present tense, is, for the sake of brevity. Obviously the 60's were not the best years for the Secret Service.

So are we to assume that if someone kills Ohammy, that person is automatically a WACIST because Ohammy is TEH BLACK?

You're right. If someone assassinated McBush, and they happen to be non-white, I wouldn't automatically assume it was race. Good point!
