When you're the president of the United States, only the best pizza will do - even if that means flying a chef 860 miles.
Chris Sommers, 33, jetted into Washington from St Louis, Missouri, on Thursday with a suitcase of dough, cheese and pans to to prepare food for the Obamas and their staff.
He had apparently been handpicked after the President had tasted his pizzas on the campaign trail last autumn.
This is a bloke who's constantly lecturing you plebs (you know, those of you who "didn't win") about your carbon footprint. Good to know you're not being led by a hypocrite, eh?

Plus, of course, it also shows what a tasteless chav Barry really is. If you've going to blow taxpayers' money and have a pizza flown in, at least do it properly and get it from Italy.

The amount of free buzz he's gotten for this has more then made up for his expense.

If that's true, then I have nothing against it from a "tax wasting" perspective.

Keep grasping at straws. Pour through some more blogs and see if you can find a right wing blogger who is mad about what color shirt Obama is wearing and then make an angry snide post on here about it so all of the resident angry right wingers can ooh and ahh over it and feel better about how smart they are.

Personally I don't give a toss where Barry gets his pizza from. But he should keep his gob shut and not whine about everyone else's "carbon footprints" if he's gonna engage in that kind of thing.

I almost think this is just backlash for all of the ribbing the right wingers and republicans got during the Bush administration. Right Wingers are so desperate to throw all of that hate right back that they are taking it to such an extreme that it’s really starting to become ridiculous.
You guys are peaking too early. At this pace no one will care in a year. You have from 4 to 8 years of this administration. Pace yourselves. Everyone is going to get worn out.
Yes, we get it. You don’t like Obama or the Democrats. We get it... but come on. I mean seriously...

Ummm. You're not getting it. Well, not getting me, anyway. I don't like any politicians. Except Ron Paul.
I especially don't like politicians who don't lead by example. Those who bang on about carbon footprints and then fly pizza chefs hundreds of miles (or allow pizza chefs to fly in to cook for them), for example. Or those who bang on about shutting tax havens down whilst employing blokes who haven't paid their taxes for a while.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm all for flying good food in from wherever and not paying one's taxes. But just don't say one thing and do another.

You might find this hard to believe but I'm really not.
I prefer Democrats to Republican but find politics in general to be quite a turnoff.
I also definitely preferred Obama to Hilary, but again, wasn't completely enthralled with either. I like Obama more then Gore or Kerry as well... but that doesn't mean I'm a fanboy. I didn't give any money, or volunteer or offer any support beyond my vote.
To be honest I think I would have a hard time really getting behind anyone who actually wanted to be president. To me the simple act of wanting to be president is an indicator of a huge character flaw.
My problem is that while the Democrat stance on many issues are right in line with my own... I find the democratic party and the whole political process to be a complete joke.
I do however find it to be very interesting, even though I know better then to think anything will ever get any better. I don't even think having the Democrats in power unchecked would be a good thing. Both parties need each other to keep them in line.
I just find it comical how much many people on here demonize the left as if the right was any different. They are two heads of the same dragon.

I will when he does something worth bitching about.
This bailout scares the crap out of me, but since I'm no economic expert, I can't really form a strong opinion one way or the other. I honestly have no idea who is right and who is wrong and what will work and what won't. So since I'm not speaking from an educated position, and I don't have any better ideas... I don't feel I have a right to bitch about.
As for everything else, he hasn't given me much to bitch about... but then again, he's been in power for what... THREE MONTHS?
Let's give it some time.

I have not seen a lot in these three months that make me hopeful about the next three months.
The "change" Obama kept talking about, nothing but an empty shell. The Democrats are bipartisan as ever, and their grasp of the economy and finances is rudimentary at best.

Meh. I've had pizza in Chicago and pizza in Italy. Chicago wins.
Don't know about St. Louis, but I have to assume that Barry has had Chicago pizza to compare this to, seeing as how he lived here and all...

The environmental movement is running into some serious problems, and this type of news is symbolic of that fact. The public is no longer getting behind environmental issues like they did in the 70s, 80s and 90s. And when there is such a huge disparity between the rhetoric and praxis of environmental awareness at the executive level, it does not send a good message to the public.

Who names a pizza place Pi? I have not been to this "Pi" place, but it sounds like a load of pretentious wankery. It's a play on the St. Louis area code (314) and Pizza Pie...
Ugh.
The classic St. Louis style pizza is a super thin crispy crust, typically with Provel cheese. It gets cut into squares. There is chain here called Imo's which is considered the standard for what St. Louis style pizza is. Who makes the best is up for debate.
You can (obviously) get any kind of pizza you want here though. St. Louis is known for it's family run Italian restaurants and most of them make good pizza.

I don't know about that. I've never seen anything like this current "green" trend before. Every other product on the shelf has some sort of "green" reference on it, everyone is driving hybrids, etc...
I would say the environmental movement is as kicking as ever. Annoyingly so, now that corporate america has it's hooks into it.
I've never really understood why so many people have huge problems with environmentalism. I can see how you might think people take it to far... but wouldn't erring on the side of caution be a good thing?

From the blog that ort888 linked to, it seems that the restaurateur was coming to DC anyway. Net environmental cost to the pizza from borrowing Sommers' on his trip: zero.

This guy obviously knows some people. This entire thing is more likely just a big publicity stunt. This Pi place is not some sort of important local business. It's a new place. The guy who owns it probably knows someone who knows someone and got his food to Obama when he was campaigning in St. Louis.
Then he probably spent a long time talking to whoever his contact was and arranged for his pizza to be served at his expense so he could get it plastered everywhere and make more money.
I seriously doubt Obama went to an aide and said... you know what I want? I want some of that pizza I ate in St. Louis. Have someone fly him here. Chop chop.
It's all a big PR stunt.

But if "Libs" back something, the "neo-Cons" MUST be against it!
Personally, I don't like commercialization of it all. I have no problem with someone trying to be environmentally conscious, I'll enjoy my 24mpg less-than-practical car and vintage motorcycles running with (gasp!) carburetors.

I'm getting bored with how pissed off the liberal left is when the conservative right finds petty things to bitch about in regards to Obama.
For eight years the right had to listen to the left blathering on and on about the Bush Regime and how evil Republicans are. I remember, after the 2004 election results were final, some dumb bitch blogger was writing about how she just knew that John Ashcroft would swiftly be enacting martial law, and we'd have tanks rolling through our suburban streets.
Now the tables are turned, and it's the left bitching about the right's pettiness and distaste for the current president. I'm not saying that people aren't going to bitch - I'm just tired of people talking about how wrong it is for others to dis the current president. Who cares? You did it before, so STFU and enjoy the fact that you finally got your Democrat President and Democrat Congress. Now all your liberal wet dreams can come to fruition.
This was a dumb thing for anyone in the conservative right to get riled up about, but it's clear from other threads in the PWL that Democrats feel Republicans are wrong/stupid/whatever for making fun of x or y in regards to Obama. Get over it, relax, and bask in the glory of your Obamessiah.

Oh come on now, don't you people know you've got to waste resources in order to save resources?
There's little sense in focusing on cutting the use of resources, change is expensive. Flying a chef 860 miles will save a rain forest.

Not "some people" besson, major news outlets, forged documents, assassination flicks, W, the works bro it came at him from all sides and it was relentless. It wasn't just W either, Cheney took more flack than any VP I can recall. Well, except for maybe Quayle. It does little good to come back at this point and talk about the high road. Many regard this public outcry of ad hom as actually more destructive to the party than the party was to themselves and for many it's payback time.
Makes no sense. What happened to taking the high road?
There is no high road. There never was. For some it's a little higher than others, but they're all low and they're all usually deserving. That's just how it goes I guess. Like I always say, Obama has inherited a heavy crown.

The Left bashed Nixon...
The Left bashed Ford...
The Right bashed Carter...
The Left bashed Reagan...
The Left bashed Bush 1...
The Right bashed Clinton...
The Left bashed Bush 2...
The Right is bashing Obama...
The "high road" should have been taken a very long time ago, it would seem. Get over it, it's business as usual. Crying won't help.
