Is your news services delayed by 24 hours out there in Barry Goldwater Country? This was current news over 24 hours ago.
Yes, this was a nice little clutsterf*ck. The military and FAA told all the relevant authorities in NYC about the flights ahead of time but told the authorities NOT to inform the general public for some reasons related to security. Sounds like some bozos thought AF1 could securely (i.e.: secretly) fly over lower Manhattan without anyone noticing.
And yes, I agree with you. This was all President Obama's fault as he personally ordered that this flight be taken and he personally ordered that the authorities not tell the public about the flight ahead of time. NOT!

Well, I think the point was that no one would know about the flight before it happened. I don't think they cared whether people noticed, nor did they think about the implications of that.
But yeah, quite a clutsterf*ck. I read today that they had a similar flyover planned for DC, but they canceled it after this.

A furious President Barack Obama ordered an internal review of Monday's low-flying photo op over the Statue of Liberty.
CBS 2 HD has discovered the feds will have plenty to question.
Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.
In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out
