This poll is seriously flawed - it has no option of "my country" for those not in the US nor an option of "Doofness" for those of us who're properly in the know.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

An "all of the above" would have been nice too. I am a citizen of my city, county, state and nation. I vote in city, county, state, and national elections because I take my citizenship seriously. The only reason I have a passport is that going outside the boundaries of my nation puts me in a situation that isn't always benign, and it's important to be able to prove where "home" is. I should also note that Soviet "citizens" had to have passports for travel inside the Soviet Union, so the passport distinction isn't a very strong one.

Apparently. I don't even get what this one is trying to find out.

Incidentally, I'm a citizen of both the United States and Great Britain. Go me.

No.

Doof might wonder why Shif puts up with the IRS if she doesn't have to.

Good point. I forgot about that "we own you" stuff which they pull. That'll serve me right for posting while I'm hopped up on lasagne.

Well, it's even worse. As a US citizen (and as a green card holder as well), you are subject to the IRS with ALL your WORLDWIDE income.

Even if you leave the country and live somewhere else. It totally sucks.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "they own you". Even more so now you've got the exit tax in place for those wanting to lose their US citizenship.

Don't worry, with all that Gordo has spent over the past few years, the Brit government will find you soon. And get you to pay towards putting the country back on track financially.

You can't edit it, but we can. Or, since the rails for this particular train seem to have been ripped up, you could start another poll.

I'd suggest following Doofy's point about "my country" as well as thinking clearly about exactly what information you want the poll to generate. If it's in the PWL, you're apparently thinking of it generating "contentious" stuff...

I don't think you realise just how invasive your IRS is when compared to the tax-gatherers in other countries...

I move to the BVI, I pay no taxes. You move to the BVI, you still have to pay Uncle Sam his federal taxes.

He didn't like my comment that I'm proud to be a citizen of the state of Tennessee but really don't care much for the USA as a whole.

I personally believe that there's a quantum step from "all of the above" and "citizen of the world." For example, world travel might be useful to get a feel for some parts of a country or two, but actually "living" in those countries would be much better. I've "lived" in three countries, but I've visited (counts on his fingers...) at least five others. Those visits didn't really give me a sense of what it's like for a citizen of those countries. In one though, I did get that sense; I have in-laws who have relatives there, so spending time with "the cousins" gave me an opportunity to really understand life there.

It wouldn't surprise me if most American citizens have a similar attitude - and really, why is that a bad thing? I don't want my tax dollars paying for some social program in Los Angeles, and personally, I couldn't give two shits about that city - or California as a whole. I'm far more interested in things that actually impact me directly - e.g. what's going on in my city, my county, and my state.

At first, I thought the poll was to isolate nationalists. I love my country. I love my city and my State. I want what's best for it and I'm not certain this is a shared opinion. I see us moving towards a philosophy that other nations are abandoning. I regard myself a citizen of my country that would afford rights, autonomy, and the provision of defense to the State, which provides for my City and my contributions likewise roll back through.

I was actually looking for the option- "People's Republic of Amerika"
