OOOH NOES.

It's GLOBAL COOLING!! Cooling!?!? But but but but but I thought the planet was warming and would bake us alive in 100 years. Oh, now it's global climate change? Haven't climate changes been recorded throughout the globe across the span of time?

Thank you for the news, mattyb. You did pick the wrong Lounge, but that's okay.

Yes, wrong lounge but this is not new. Global warming will melt the ice shelves that will alter the temperature of the seas and lead to altered temperature patterns that will, in many places, make it much colder.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

Funny, I got up this morning thinking how awesome it was that the nights have been mostly cool this year.

It snowed in North Dakota last week.

So, what you hippies need to do is go chop that Prius in for a large V8. Or we'll all die and it'll be all your fault.

It's a good thing most scientific research can't be summed up in a couple of sentences.

The sun has been at the low point of it's "11" year cycle for about a year now. Cool earther's are loving it.

If the earth were cooling, it would be interesting to see if there is any 10 year stretch of time in our temperature record that has been warmer than the last ten years.

We don't understand it, so we're going to call it change rather than assigning a direction.

Much like adding water into a bathtub, the warming is the increased volume of water being added to the tub, while the change are the waves that move around in the tub; each wave has a crest and a trough. Adding/removing water is the warming/cooling globally - the waviness is the change that is seen at local and regional level. Each is independent of the other.

Again, wondering if anyone can show a ten year period that is warmer than the last decade. This would give an idea of which direction warming/cooling is progressing.

In addition to the cold snaps, weather really, the article also included examples where the opposite of the headline (and picture) is occuring - large-scale droughts. This is the waviness.

Houston, TX was only 2 degrees off the record high yesterday, 20 degrees off the record low. Are you feeling cold or hot down there?

Hardly. Everyone knows that you turn on the AC when it is too warm. Get with it.

The Earth's climate is not such a simple system. Warming in some places can cause cooling in others.

Maybe you should try reading published findings instead of listening to Rush Limbaugh, then maybe you wouldn't be so confused.
