Water levels in some Chinese rivers are well below their average with 50 to 80 percent less rain than last year.

China on Thursday raised the drought-emergency-alert level from orange to red and allocated an additional $44 million dollars on top of the $13 million in emergency aid already released.

Here's food for the eco-idiot thought: Desertification in Africa may be slowing down global warming, because the Sahara sand is Iron seeding the Atlantic and allowing algae growth which is generating biomass consuming carbon dioxide. Who are you going to cheer for?!

It's hard for me to concentrate on droughts right now. It rained for 24 of 29 days here, and my parents are staying in my house with us because their entire neighborhood is facing a serious flood because a levee is overflowing. It's been close to breaking since Thursday night.
