With plans to decorate the apartment for Xmas, I've thought about a windowsill nativity scene. I'm thinking a baby Jesus being visited by three wise men: a Muslim, a Jew, and a Buddhist. The wise men statues will be very obvious.

I'm wondering if my window will get a stone thrown thru it.

(Yes, I know the "wise men" were really "Magi," but no one really knows whether Matthew intended Magi as actual Persian priests, or astrologers, or magicians.)

How do you plan to depict each wise man?

Sounds like a great idea IMO. A good showing of unity in the spirit of the holiday season. As to whether or not your window will get a stone thrown thru it ... that all depends on your neighborhood.

Well you're looking for attention so you will probably get it in one form or another.

I would suggest adding a fourth wise men, Ronald Reagan, and have him just hanging out with everybody...

Or, you could just send the money you were going to use to pay for that shizz to a famine relief charity.

Kate Beckinsale visited Jesus in the manger. Don't forget Kate Friggin Beckinsale.

Thinking about this further: Are you really sure having a Muslim, a Jew and Buddhist supplicate themselves to Jesus is the message you want to send?

The Muslim is fine, as Jesus is an important prophet in Islam.

The Jew would probably want nothing to do with him.

And the Buddhist wouldn't likely be in the neighbourhood.

A Muslim wouldn't likely be in the neighborhood either — at least not for several more centuries.

And I guess the Jew could be a relative. They'd probably care.

Im curious as to what the whole point is...other than just boredom, since the whole thing just doesn't make any sense... and wanting to start fights with people of various religions. Or are you one of those people who believes "it will make people think"?

You could put up a web cam and catch the people throwing stones, then charge them with hate crimes. It's a felony with up to 3 years in prison.

Also, it should be Brian, not Jesus. Praise be the cheese makers!

Lots of strange assumptions about my motives. I just wanted to create an "inclusive" nativity scene. The Jew, Muslim, and Buddhist aren't there to worship Jesus, they're just bringing gifts.

I'm an atheist, but I love Xmas, and I love discussing and learning about religion. This creche was about me and my interests, not about trolling.

You've all shown me that I shouldn't do this, that it will get misinterpreted, and that I probably will get a rock thru my windows. Thanks!

BTW, there were Buddhist missionaries in the Mediterranean region in the first century, and many Jews do see Jesus as a respectable moral teacher. I don't think there's anything blasphemous about this creche, but obviously a lot of hypersensitive people here do.

Yeah, but the magi's role in the actual story is that they were coming to see and pay tribute to the Son of God. That's all I was getting at.

Admit it, you're just trying to stir people up. No possible misinterpretation. There's no other reason to put such an inaccurate creche up. You're not being "inclusive", or else you include other religions. The muslim is especially disingenuous. You might as well include a festivus pole and L. Ron hubbard. Don't forget some MJ leaves for Rastafarianism.

I doubt you'd get a rock through your window, but you would get your neighbors becoming more informed about your nature and your mocking treatment of their beliefs. Again, this tells more about you than any speculative imagined rock thrower.

I don't see why he would "include other religions." That seems like a very impressive bit of mind-reading on your part. He's got all the major religions of the West covered, so why would he include others? The only other traditional world religion is Hinduism, and that's really uncommon in many places.

The story has three magi, so I'm limited to 3 religions. And I don't understand why the muslim is "more disingenuous." Care to explain that?

You should at least limit yourself to religions that existed at the time. Adding a Muslim is offensive to Muslims.

THAT is about the only valid point. Though a 600 year time lapse from the birth of Jesus and the first Muslim makes it a very provocative creche and says more about the creator and not the observers.

This is true of virtually any personal religious display, whether deemed provocative or not.
