This thread is for posting links to stuff that displays religious fanaticism at its best, in a comical way. I don't want to center out any particular religion, and I'm hoping that this sort of thing is something that all of us can be amused by without this turning nasty, no matter what our beliefs. So, be nice!

My submission...

A preacher preaching about the dangers and satanic aspects to Pokemon:

Chuckit,

I mean not to troll. But do you seriously take the OP as anything other than?

I was simply trying to illustrate the ridiculous request for pictures mocking religions in general, and complied on the same level that was asked of me. I see how I may offend some with my sarcasm, but wouldn't it be unfair to say that the OP isn't doing the same with the premise of this thread?

I do not object to the removal of my post as long as this thread is locked.

I'm mocking religious fanaticism of all kinds, not religion in general. How is this not obvious?

It is perfectly okay to mock whatever you want to mock, I don't care, but you'll notice that this thread is about *religious* fanaticism. I don't want it to degenerate to another debate about Al Gore/GW, but since people seem to be ignoring your post, whatever...

Also, believing in the things that Al Gore says does not make one a fanatic. Acting upon them in fanatical ways does.

Trying to surreptitiously re-distributing an author's book with material designed to counter/falsify the claims made in the book definitely should be considered fanatical. The sly, surreptitious aspect of their actions is what makes it fanatical. They can't just hand out copies of the book with a separate tract highlighting their opposition to it. They have to include their opposition within the text to make it seem as if it is somehow more "legitimate".

It's just like the atheists who go around to bookstores inserting pamphlets into copies of the Bible questioning what is said in the Bible. Or those individuals who go to bookstores and move copies of religious texts into the Fiction section because they think they're being "subversive". They are being dumb and juvenile and irrational/fanatical in their desire to make their ideas heard.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Honestly, the more egregious error in the video to me was the fact that he seemed to think Pokemon was an FPS.

You didn't specify what you meant by religious.

Religious as in

1 : relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity ?
2 : of, relating to, or devoted to religious beliefs or observances ?
3 a : scrupulously and conscientiously faithful ?

Clearly, the Church of Climatology fits the last definition quite well.
And this thread is all about mocking, right ? Or is making fun different than mocking ?

It's fine to mock climatology if you like; this simply isn't the thread for it. I think there are quite a few threads on that topic if you're in the mood.

Why ?

Besson failed to define "religious" to strictly mean "pertaining to religion". His fault.

Climatology *IS* religious fanatism, just of another kind.

Stop splitting hairs, it's obvious what the intent of this thread is -- and it's not to whine about global warming. If you want to do that, you can create your own thread.

Obvious how ? Because Besson created it ?

Other than that, it's only obvious if your grasp of English is limited.

Of course, I get the message. It's just funny how Politics and political preferences play a role in this, ain't it ? Liberals like religion bashing. How does anyone dare to interrupt the hate-fest.

For anyone who missed it, I'll say it again:

Belief in climate change now has the same legal status as religion here in the UK. Therefore, climate change is legally a religion. Anyone who disagrees with that is just plain wrong.

We didn't miss it. We just don't care about the idiotic rulings of one judge in one small country that contradict the obvious meaning of the OP. In my make-believe kingdom of Tilapia, such rhetorical contortions are punishable by death, but I assume you don't feel obligated to submit to that either.

Anyway, more properly, it makes the judge's ruling an example of religious fanaticism, not Al Gore's book.

Well then Chuck, in the interests of the correct continuance of this thread would you please list all the religions which we can take the mick out of? Thanks.

Shall we assume that Wicca is out, since it's intimately connected to Gaia Worship, which is the basis of the climatology cult?

There is at least one current thread bashing global warming, so why don't you move it there?

In case you missed it...My reply to the OP was not intended to turn this into a "bash global warming" thread, but to illustrate the OP's failure to start a thread which could result in mature, meaningful, productive debate. He got exactly what he asked for as far as replies go. He wants a mockery of certain individuals and belief systems? He got one.

The "obvious meaning" of the OP is exactly what I took issue with, and satirized using my initial response.

I hope that clarifies the meaning behind my parody.
