I didn't really know if I should post this or not.

Shocking isn't a strong enough word.

Well, they missed the "kill their leaders" part, didn't they?

Here's why their leaders need removing:
Uganda's Minister of Ethics and Integrity James Nsaba Buturo believes that "to punish retrospectively would cause a problem... if we can persuade Ugandans to change, that is much better than going back into the past."
Like, what? What a f'ing pussy. Just kill the f'ers.

I didn't realize missionaries killed people. Or were privy to Ann Coulters rambling hundreds of years ago.

We could try the "bomb them back to the Stone Age" bit but the Stone Age would seem to be an improvement over where they are at now.

And the "winning hearts and minds" bit only works with people who don't like to eat those parts of the body.

I honestly don't know what we in the West can do to help Africa besides leave them alone and help to eliminate diseases (a la the Gates Foundation).
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

How do you eliminate a disease when the only "cure" is having sex with virgins?

I don't what disease you are referring to but I was thinking of the work on malaria done by the Gates Foundation. That is a disease that can be minimized/eradicated without needing to resort to some superstitious act like sex with a virgin.

He's talking about an urban legend — which some people believe — that says you can cure yourself of AIDS by having sex with a virgin. Obviously this has the opposite effect of what is desired.

Americans’ Role Seen in Uganda Anti-Gay Push

January 3, 2010

KAMPALA, Uganda — Last March, three American evangelical Christians, whose teachings about “curing” homosexuals have been widely discredited in the United States, arrived here in Uganda’s capital to give a series of talks.

The theme of the event, according to Stephen Langa, its Ugandan organizer, was “the gay agenda — that whole hidden and dark agenda” — and the threat homosexuals posed to Bible-based values and the traditional African family.

For three days, according to participants and audio recordings, thousands of Ugandans, including police officers, teachers and national politicians, listened raptly to the Americans, who were presented as experts on homosexuality. The visitors discussed how to make gay people straight, how gay men often sodomized teenage boys and how “the gay movement is an evil institution” whose goal is “to defeat the marriage-based society and replace it with a culture of sexual promiscuity.”

Now the three Americans are finding themselves on the defensive, saying they had no intention of helping stoke the kind of anger that could lead to what came next: a bill to impose a death sentence for homosexual behaviour.

Messed up country. I saw Rachel Maddow's interview with one of the guys supporting that Uganda anti-gay campaign. It was great. The dude actually ended up promising to take some of the misinformation out of his book because it was such blatant homophobic crap.

Sucks to have your penis cut off. And I thought cutting your penis foreskin was bad. They took it to the next level in circumcision.
Bush Tax Cuts == Job Killer
June 2001: 132,047,000 employed
June 2003: 129,839,000 employed
2.21 million jobs were LOST after 2 years of Bush Tax Cuts.

[A]ccording to the head of the country's Anti-Human Sacrifice Taskforce the crime is directly linked to rising levels of development and prosperity, and an increasing belief that witchcraft can help people get rich quickly.
Seems to be working then, I guess. Nice hyphenation, one might note.

That was exactly what they were pushing for. How can you drum support for wanton hatred without the hatred part?

They're complete cowards. They hoped the homophobic sentiment would be more low-profile like it is in the US. It's one thing to make statements that logically entail killing homosexuals and have people occasionally act on them — you can just say, "Oh, you misinterpreted me and took my statements out of context" if anybody calls you out while still getting the benefit of oppressing people. Supporting a plain-language law that would put homosexuals to death takes more spine than these nancies have. Unfortunately, they didn't realize their partners do have the backbone.

Absolute madness. I, as a christian, denounce the actions of those hate-mongering fools. They should be teaching tolerance and love, not this hateful "us vs them" crap that undeveloped nations act quite harshly upon.

Problem: widespread religious beliefs that human sacrifice can be to your benefit

Solution: promote a different religion where a particular human sacrifice was the best thing that ever happened and we should always celebrate it by performing symbolic (or literal if you accept Catholic or Orthodox dogma) cannibalism

Hmmm, don't see how that could go wrong.
