Scientists find the gene that gives people liberal views | Mail Online

Liberals may owe their political outlook to their genes, according to new research.

Scientists have discovered that our views on life are not just affected by social factors but also by the presence of a dopamine receptor gene called DRD4.

The study, University of California, San Diego, and Harvard University, is the first research to link a specific gene to certain political views.

Appearing in the latest edition of The Journal of Politics published by Cambridge University Press, the research focused on 2,000 subjects.

By matching genetic information with maps of the subjects' social networks, the researchers were able to show that people with a specific variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to be liberal as adults, but only if they had an active social life as teenagers.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter affecting brain processes that control movement, emotional response, and the ability to experience pleasure and pain.

Previous research has identified a connection between a variant of this gene and novelty-seeking behaviour, which has in turn been associated with personality traits related to political liberalism.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter affecting brain processes that control movement, emotional response, and the ability to experience pleasure and pain.

Previous research has identified a connection between a variant of this gene and novelty-seeking behaviour, which has in turn been associated with personality traits related to political liberalism.

Lead researcher James H. Fowler of UC San Diego and his colleagues believe that people with the novelty-seeking gene variant would be more interested in learning about their friends' points of view.

As a consequence, people with this genetic predisposition who have a greater-than-average number of friends would be exposed to a wider variety of social norms and lifestyles, which might make them more liberal than average.
Or perhaps conservatives are people with a genetic predisposition for being a stick-in-the-mud and have no life?

Now we know that it's a genetic trait, we can probably start screening for it so those with the defective genes can be barred from running for office.

This is actually a bit of an eye-opener for me. I was certain that liberalism was a social disease. Like chlamydia and herpes.
Perhaps it is. Perhaps the genetic damage is caused by the disease (we know that cancer is a virus and causes genetic damage, so...).

I always knew it! Well, at least we now know that leftist stupidity is deterministic at least in part, so we can't treat them as harshly. They suffer from a genetic disorder. I have a lot more pity for them now.

The positive side effect of those with the 'liberal gene' is that they are much more intelligent than those without the gene.

They are much more curious about the world and exploring it. They tend to be more open-minded and tend to form less conventional political viewpoints as adults.

Those without the 'liberal gene' are less curious. They rather just be force feed than actually learn and analyze. They lack curiously. They are more like lemmings following what they have been told without putting much thought into it.
Bush Tax Cuts == Job Killer
June 2001: 132,047,000 employed
June 2003: 129,839,000 employed

While liberals have the DRD4 gene, conservatives have the R2D2 gene.

This gene limits conservatives to utter only a few audible sounds. Beep Boop Guns, Beep Boop God, Beep Boop Obama, Beep Boop Muslim.

No. Here's how it really is:

Conservatives are equally curious and don't lack "curiously" [sic] at all. But at some point in their learning they actually figure out that certain things are, in fact, harmful to a society and to people's freedoms.

Libs have "curiously" [sic], but never learn. Thus they're doomed to forever f up.

They are less likely to fall for BS disguised as science, or the social engineering, and they have longer attention spans, and aren't so easily fooled by entertainers/political hacks trying to spew lies as if they were facts.

Yes, I am... I have seen studies that show that liberals are smarter than conservatives, and have made the generalization myself that conservatives don't like change, have heard people make the argument about how there is no diversity in the party, how mentally deficient these people are and those people... Blah blah blah. Then I read something about a Democrat tea party nazi dude and I think **** it, people in general are mental.

You can spin your tires all day trying to cling to one study or another, trying desperately to make sweeping generalizations, etc. but at the end of the day people in general will do their jobs and disappoint, and whatever those stereotypes are about liberals being crunchy emotional hippy peace loving anti-capitalist ivory tower intellectuals or conservatives being war-mongering white Christian whatever blah blah blah don't apply to me anyway, so **** it. There is likely a significant population of certain demographics that skew these sorts of studies one way or another, but whatever...

Then, of course, we can apply these theories to the politicians we have and point fingers when somebody on one side does something stupid that justifies the mentally deficient label, only for then shortly thereafter for somebody on the other side to do something just as stupid. It's a pointless exercise and endless cycle.

People are mentally deficient. That is the only, real, practical, actionable conclusion here...
