So of course it's all going off again. With 24 hour news BBC News 24 here in the UK, we haven't stopped hearing about the exploding ink cartridges since yesterday afternoon. Mostly the same 10 minutes of content repeated again and again.

First, here in the UK we were told that the inkjet cartridge did NOT contain any explosives, then Obama went live to say that it did. So now it did again. The current line is that if it had gone of it could have brought down an entire airliner.

Looking at the amount of explosives contained in an inkjet cartridge, a cartridge that would be packed inside a cargo container (which is blast proof) I kind of doubt this, but it's certainly a great line to get everyone nice and scared again.

This device also bears all the hallmarks of Al Qaeda. If this is true that has to be good news since the devices look spectacularly amateur. certianly for an organisation that was portrayed as a world wide terror factory.

Too much scary?

Dude, how about you read some more news regarding this. The bombs were never meant to detonate on the plane. They were meant to be detonated once they arrived at the Chicago synagogue.

They would have had to be addressed to some place just to facilitate shipping, but Al Qaeda is obsessed with airplanes. It's plausible that shipment by air was dual-purpose: a ground target and a live test of the security systems in air cargo shipping in order to plan or attempt an airborne explosion.

The pictures I saw were of a toner cartridge. You could probably stuff a couple pounds worth of plastic explosives inside, maybe more.

That's plenty enough to take out an airliner, even buried in a cargo container.

AFAIK, It wasn't plastique - it was PETN (basically powdered nitro). 100g of that stuff will take out a car (and you only need a small hole at cruise alt to take out an airliner).
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.
