Showdown With Enormous Government

This Tuesday is the beginning of a showdown with enormous government. The outcome of this election has immense implications for the future of the United States and the rest of the world.
It's a choice between Progressivism/Socialism versus Capitalism.
It's a choice between more enormous government versus a movement away from it.
It's a choice between authoritarian government control - Nanny Uncle Sam - versus personal liberty.
It's a choice between escalated confiscation of private wealth versus one's right to keep more of one's own wealth.
It's a choice between national bankruptcy, perhaps hyperinflation, versus a reliable dollar.
It's a choice between the Socialist Welfare State versus renewed personal responsibility.
It's a choice between tyranny versus liberty.
This is the beginning of the showdown. Next one takes place in two years when Obama must be made a one termer. Choose wisely, America.

Unfortunately, in most races the choices are between a well known rascal and an unknown rascal. Between a politician who has stated he's for this or that but not lived up to that and a politician who says he believes in this or that and who knows what he'll do. And there is almost no clear cut obvious choice between good and bad. Voting this time is going to be hard work. I agree: "Choose wisely."

@ OP: I wish it was like that, but do you really think Republicans will achieve all that ?
To be honest, I'm not thank optimistic. Many Reps are giving lip service to small government, but will never act according to it.

Do you actually think in such exaggerated hyperbole?
Tyranny? Seriously?

It's not hyperbole to me, not at all. You're just too accustomed to unrestrained government power to see the truth, IMO.
I don't have high hopes that the Tea Party influenced GOP can restore the country over night, but this is probably the last best chance we have to turn things back in the right direction. If we don't defeat corrupt Dem. incumbents this time around like Boxer and Reid, our prospects for the future will be much dimmer.

What I am, is unable to exaggerate ideas into outrageous caricatures.
The fact you are able to reconcile calling one political party tyrants while the other is eventually going to save our country speaks volumes. I'm sorry, because I can't lie to myself and believe such nonsense.
The Reps will make significant gains in this election and then get voted out in due time for their own incompetence. The thought that either party is in any way markedly different from the other is an illusion.

You can believe that all you want, but that's a rather dismal view. A Tea Party infused GOP can restore the country, but only if the people are ready to take responsibility for themselves again. If the majority of Americans want handouts and hand holding from government, we'll just continue down the path of Socialism, indebtedness and tyranny.

It's a choice between Progressivism/Socialism versus Capitalism.
Unfortunately, you don't know what capitalism is, because we don't have it here in the U. S. We have corporations buying our government; that isn't capitalism.
It's a choice between more enormous government versus a movement away from it.
The Republicans were the party that brought back big government. After George W. Bush was elected, the size of the federal government exploded, after having shrunk under Bill Clinton. You aren't really so naive as to think it's going to shrink again, just because a few Republicans are elected, are you?
It's a choice between authoritarian government control - Nanny Uncle Sam - versus personal liberty.
Another complete lack of understanding of what's happening in Washington. Our rights are being eroded, bit by bit, by the military-industrial complex (which a Republican, Eisenhower, warned of 60 years ago). People are so gullible, falling for the irrational fear that they're going to be killed by a terrorist act, that they're willing to give up anything. Why do you think the national id keeps getting brought up? You really don't understand who's really in charge, do you?
It's a choice between escalated confiscation of private wealth versus one's right to keep more of one's own wealth.
More and more Americans are seeing their personal wealth decline, as more and more of the wealth in this country (and around the world) is concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer. You don't really believe the rich are going to suddenly going to give back the money they think they're entitled to, do you? What do you think the foundation of this country's explosive growth after WWII was founded on? Hint; it was corporate taxes which built our highway system, our explosive growth in universities (heard of the G I Bill?), our medical research institutions, and on and on.
It's a choice between national bankruptcy, perhaps hyperinflation, versus a reliable dollar.
More lack of understanding. Our dollar's value is based not only on what we think it's worth. In fact, it's based more on what other countries' governments and financial institutions think it's worth, and that has shrunken considerably and will continue to do so. We're no longer the beacon of hope for the rest of the world, and there are billions of people all over the globe who will gladly do our jobs for a lot less money (which has more to do with what our dollar is worth than you apparently realize). The American Middle Class is a dying breed, and its explosive growth during the mid-20th century was something not seen before in history. Other countries are now emulating that model (think China, India, and to a lesser extent, Russia), and they're going to win.
It's a choice between the Socialist Welfare State versus renewed personal responsibility.
Where is the personal responsibility of those who think they can hoard the world's riches amongst a select few? Your model of the failed Socialist Welfare State is hopelessly outdated, as welfare has shrunk dramatically in the last two decades here in the U. S., but you no doubt would rather like to believe that you're the only hard working, upright citizen the U. S. has ever seen. It's a typical example of the belief in the fallacy that your good fortune has been because of your hard work, while those who are less than you are so because they're lazy and stupid.
It's a choice between tyranny versus liberty.
Tell that to your corporate overlords, when they cut your pay and benefits, and they rewrite the laws, telling where and when you can go out.
This is the beginning of the showdown. Next one takes place in two years when Obama must be made a one termer. Choose wisely, America.
You think that those in power are suddenly going to realize they need to listen to the people, instead of those who line their pockets? Incredible!

Will either party reign in the TSA? At an airport you now have the choice between a naked photo (stored for future recall) and crotch groping (front of the hand, all the way up until they meet "resistance").

It's not really on topic but I just experienced this in Atlanta. It's not even the naked pic that bothers me as much as all the radiation it must be exposing people to. And you're called a "refuser" if you don't want to be subjected to it. You get to wait around for 10 minutes for someone to grope you. "Now I'll use the back of my hand sir." Great.

No, you don't have to make it personal, it doesn't have to be about me... Just say something that you know to be unreasonable that you disbelieve or believe on account of it being unreasonable, like for instance (if you happen to believe this): 9/11 was a hoax, or the moon landing was also a hoax, or that politician X wants to give free viagra to pedophiles (this was an actual campaign ad)

Okay, here's something I really believe: Leftism and the enormous government it produces is killing the United States and destroying the liberties of its citizens.

No. There are proponents of enormous government in the GOP as well, but there's still a big difference between the two parties.

Lets go back to how weak and depleated the previous Democrat left things - CARTER? remember that idiot? remember how long it took for our military to recover? Same deal under Clinton.... All this while forcing banks and mortgage companies to loan money to untrustworthy types. Carter, then Clinton and the mismanagement of FREDDIE and FANNIE, until they were pushed over the edge by Frank and Dodd to 'help' Obama's presidential campaign.

So that crashing stock market right after 9/11 was made up? It's not just fear of loss of life and limb, but the other stuff too.

The money "they" think they are entitled too? Sounds like urban legends to me.

So welfare per person has shrunk, but the numbers on the dole have increased and so has the financial outlay. No! Those who aren't producing aren't stupid, but young, lack experience and ask too much for an entry level job due to unrealistic expectations. Many have been fooled to think the world owes them something. They were lied to for political reasons.

We don't have to. We can address it with the political hacks.

I'm a conservative, and I definitely agree. The current political system is so broken, I don't see any party fixing it (or even making a serious effort).
I have to vote, so I vote for the group touting smaller government, but I don't fool myself into believing they they're drastically different from the other side. A marginal difference trending towards less government is all I need to sway me. The Repubs under Bush weren't much better than Mr O's squad -- I'm wanting a massive change.

If you're really so cynical, you probably shouldn't be posting on the internet, you never know who is watching.
I believe that the information that is passed between the FAA and TSA is probably at least somewhat accurate, and definitely more accurate than The Daily FAIL.

Yeah, I rewatched last year when I found it Netflix. I was quite surprised to find it was a serious action movie, and not the comedy I remembered watching as a kid.

So, when are these Tea Partiers going to man-up and actually support what needs to be done with regard to entitlements?

"Altruism is killing America. We who want to save America must repudiate this killer, root and branch. We must understand and explain to others that the acceptance of altruism necessitates the violation of individual rights... and that the arguments for altruism are baseless..."

Black vs. White
And at the margin, that's what everything comes down to. Break it down on an issue by issue basis - you agree, or not. At some level, every decision is either yes or no. Sum the yes's and subtract the no's and there's your position. Ultimately, a decision must be made on each issue, and the net of your decisions is where you stand.
You don't get to decide that you can't decide. Vote, or not. Pay taxes, or not. Go to work, or not.
How hard is that to figure out?
It has nothing to do with conservatism. After all, - we can choose to stop global warming, or everyone will die as the oceans rise to consume us.
- We can reform health care, or children will be dying in the streets.
- We can open the border, or we are racists.
- We can stop the war, or terrorists will continue to plague us.
- We can support the President, or we are hick racists.
- America is inherently evil; the rest of the world is much much better because it ISN'T America.
- Christians are just as evil as fundamentalists Muslim terrorists.
- Public schools are great.
- Everyone should belong to a union.
- Walmart is evil.
- The Right controls the media (Fox! Limbaugh!)
The elitists who think that every decision must be made on some basis other than yes and no are the irritating ones out there.

my brothers and i have decided to work out a way to remove our mother from medicare and ss. we are willing to share the costs. a lot of our friends are doing the same. we are more than willing to take care of our financial future and family.
see, that is what adults do. when you talk a game you back it up with action. unlike the left, many true conservatives understand how personal responsibility is really the only way to make a strong future.
enjoy tomorrow. i am sure there is a government program that will help talk you down from suicide and give you dried fruit to make you feel better about yourself.

It's tiresome hearing from self righteous people that make these declarations about personal responsibility as if those they are preaching at are somehow opposed to this notion. In other news, ice cream is tasty!
Your last note on suicide and dried fruit was weird.
