Think we're nasty with immigrants, how about France? You have a bunch of Roma in your country? Abuse and persecute them until they run for the hills, or if that fails, just beat them up, tear their homes down, and drag them across the border by force. WTG Frenchies, that's the way to show the international community that you're learning to play well with others...

France's Interior Minister calls for Roma gypsies 'to return' Romania or Bulgaria because they can't integrate | Mail Online

And last night he remained defiant in the face of criticism, insisting, "The majority [of Roma] should be delivered back to the borders. We are not here to welcome these people."

"I’d remind you of [former Socialist premier] Michel Rocard’s statement “it’s not France’s job to deal with the misery of the whole world”." One of Mr Valls’s own cabinet colleagues, Arnaud Montebourg, also pointed to the fact the minister’s family were migrants from Spain.

Jean-Francois Cope, the leader of the opposition UMP party, meanwhile told France Info radio station that Roma criminals regularly ‘harassed Parisians’. Referring to the Schengen agreement which allows people to move across Europe without passport checks, Mr Cope said both Romania and Bulgaria should be excluded.

‘We close our eyes to the French government to what is happening in our country – the constant violence’, he said. ‘This is extremely serious and…it is out of the question that Bulgaria and Romania enter the Schengen area until the problem is resolved at the European level.’

There are an estimated 15,000 Roma gipsies in France. Two years ago the then interior minister, Claude Gueant, claimed the vast majority of street robberies in Paris were carried out by Romanian immigrants.
So, exactly how is that different than other forms of bigotry?

I think you should get a better idea of the local situation by seeing this documentary about European gypsies.

Looks like its working. BBC reports 20 000 at 18H00 on the 25th and the Mail has it at 15 000 at 00H00 on the 26th.

Oh and since when does ANYBODY care about showing the international community that you're learning to play well with others?

They should get rid of the travellers, gitans, manouches as well.

So the Daily Mail isn't "news" but the BBC is saying the same thing? Huh.

Tell you what, maybe France should just collect up those "undesirable ethnicities" and store them in centralized places where they won't cause problems and can be rehabilitated and processed. I hear Germany still has some locations like that from 70 years ago, perhaps they'd let the French borrow them?

I've not seen how they're more desirable than the Romanians and Bulgarians? My wife Sarra is 1/2 Roma (her last name is Romani in origin), I wonder if that meant they'd run us off next time we tried to go to France? Bah, hell with it, there's no good reason to go back there, they don't need visitors or tourism money.

You're right, they get the most tourists anyway. A few less in the holiday season would be nice.

I just like the idea of a massive moon bounce.

I dated a Romanian for about 3.5 years out of college. What a trip. She was essentially royalty since her father was a very wealthy business man living in the States and at the heart of the Romanian community near DC. I can't tell you how awkward it is to be at a catered party at her house with the sitting ambassador and president of the parliament and feel like you're in another country altogether. Her family was a caricature of the American dream. Came over when the regime fell with nothing, and now live in a 5+ million dollar house with pretty much an entire Benz showroom in the driveway, tennis court in the front yard, etc etc. Her parents grew up poor in communism so they were very worldly, but unfortunately she turned more and more into the wrong attitude when they could never say no to her. She had an opportunity to work at the World bank out of college and turned it down to go on Vacation around Europe which kinda redefined the person I thought she was. Last I heard she still never got a job and is still dating my former best friend (3 years later).

Long story short she left me for my best friend (no job, no school, basically a slob - the opposite of me in a lot of respects and I suppose her rebelling against her very regimented home life) and I never spoke to her again (as much as I loved her and as much as it destroyed me). A france sized moonbounce would go a long way to ease my pain .

Oh yeah, her and her family and just about everyone I met that was from there hated Gypsies like you wouldn't believe.

If you look into the family history of any Romanian or Bulgarian you're going to find some gypsy blood, it's inevitable. The issue is, not all Roma behave like stereotypical "gypsies", just like not all Latinos are alcoholic, spouse-abusing, lay-abouts. Treating them all the same is shameful, 15-20k people isn't enough of a population for the French to get twisted out of sorts over, they're simply being racist pigs, trying to incite ethnic cleansing. I wonder what France will do when they lose this case in the World Court? You can't simply outlaw an entire race of people, there are treaties that restrict such barbarism, and for good reason.

What would be nice is if all the other countries in the world rounded up the French who live within their borders and bodily kick them out. Most of them are essentially useless anyway.

All eastern European Jews had it pretty bad, it was essentially almost genocide.

Ironic because 70 years ago the Frog Gov were paying the Germans to take away Jews in trains, or ironic that a rich man can enjoy his cars from land that was taken in the name of Manifest Destiny?

If we believe PB2K's video then should we start taking away Roma kids because their parents are teaching them how to steal? Or do we do nothing and then let the FN into power? I can match your anecdote with my own : everytime a Gypsy camp has been near homes of people that I know, they have had problems. An auntie of my wife talks of organised gangs on the Paris metro.

What do you propose?

Ironic that some of the most annoying asshats on Earth (the French) think that another group of people (the Roma) are too repulsive and vile to deal with.

Again, we're talking about a tiny minority of people who apparently, according to the French, are too "poor, corrupt, and unsalvageable" to try and integrate (your gov't said the same about the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italians too, BTW). So, those people are persecuted, abused, and stripped of their rights as EU citizens by being unceremoniously dumped on someone else's doorstep. That's some shameful shit, right there.

FYI, I don't remember stripping anyone of their land in the name of Manifest Destiny. Hmm... That sounds like moral equivalency, right there. You sure you want to share shelf space with some of the most reprehensible periods in human history? That doesn't say much for France in modern times, that's for sure.

Nobody cares. Nobody wants the Roma - have a little Google search. The UK is panicking because they'll be able to have 'free roam' of Europe in 2014. Then you'll see more of these sorts of comments. Easiest solution is to deport them, otherwise EDL, FN, PVV type groups will come to power. Is it fair? Not for the Roma. But sorry, for the tax paying voters in the majority it is.

Annoying asshats? Some of them. Never met a Roma, only seen them asking for payment in Ikea parking lots to make sure that your car doesn't get damaged. Met plenty of arseholes, from all over the world. Some on the internet as well.

Maybe you should post about Czech solutions or what's being done in Romania or what happened in Italy. Nah, the cheese-eating surrender monkeys are an easier target. Plus the Frog Pres looks weak and stupid eh?

Good try deflecting with the Manifest Destiny sentence. You know very well what I'm getting at. How far back in history do we need to go for a country to be able to have an opinion about something without an 'oh that's ironic' statement? 70 years is OK, but 700 isn't? Israel shouldn't talk about terrorists because they were once labelled as terrorists by the Brits? Should the Frogs lie down and kiss the feet of all Americans for what the US did in WW2? Or should the Yanks kiss the feet of the Frogs for their help in the American War of Independence?

Sucks when people go after your country, doesn't it? Deflecting? I'd at least try to keep the perspective within the modern/post-war era. Geez.

It's an embarrassment what Europe (especially France) has done, and continues to do, to those people, while talking about tolerance and solidarity. Instead of abusing and ostracizing them, why don't you try to make them feel included and offer them some way to help themselves? They aren't going to just disappear, in fact they're growing in population faster than most other ethnic groups, so unless you plan on exterminating them, you'd better put on your "big boy" pants and work out a solution for all. Otherwise, you're going to end up with much larger numbers that you can't simply club over the head and throw out. The US has an issue with illegal aliens, but technically according to treaty, the Roma aren't "illegals" in France, or anywhere else in Europe.

BTW, we've decided that we're going to help them with financial aid for their legal defense fund, so at least they'll have proper representation when they go after France in the World Court for human rights violations. I look forward to the results.

Wrong again Shaddim. I'm not French I just live here. Unlike the Roma, I've been told that I'm a good, well integrated immigrant. Didn't need any gov money or help to do that either.

I (and others) don't want to pay for integrating them. Why should they benefit more than any other ethnic minority?

Me too. I'll put a bet on that nothing happens.

Why don't you let some of them stay on your land in Scotland? Then they couldn't be kicked off or exploited. You wouldn't have to pay as much as a lawyer. NIMBY me thinks.

Are you now? The thing is, as I've said, the French (and other EU countries) aren't going to have a choice, the Roma are increasing in numbers faster than you "more-easily-integrated" sorts. In 2010 the estimate was around 10,000 in France, now it's between 15,000-20,000, your government can either find a solution or it will find them.

I (and others) don't want to pay for integrating them. Why should they benefit more than any other ethnic minority?

Their crime is being gypsies? Most have never been convicted of a crime in France, but they're illegally being persecuted anyway. Who said anything about giving them handouts? Find them some jobs, offer them friendship and get them involved. WTF is wrong with people over there, don't Europeans have any damned decency or compassion? You believe people want to live in shanty towns and hovels, stealing scrap metal to survive? It can work, if you decide to stop being racists.

Me too. I'll put a bet on that nothing happens.
After the first volley of fines and sanctions, I'm confident the French will decide to do something.

Why don't you let some of them stay on your land in Scotland? Then they couldn't be kicked off or exploited. You wouldn't have to pay as much as a lawyer. NIMBY me thinks.
I didn't see any up there, but I'm pretty sure there was a caravan park full of Scots pikies down the road from us. That's a good idea, though, I need to check with the guys doing our landscape and renovation to see if they can hire some of those folks, give them a chance to earn some money.

North America is more integrated, so it stands to reason that we're a good deal less prejudiced, being founded by immigrants and all that.

Maybe in my travels I can teach Europeans the difference between "socialist" and "more socialist than".

There seems to be some confusion.

Do you really think people haven't been trying that for years? The communists couldn't get them to integrate. They don't want to get involved.

No, they didn't work with them to integrate, they tried to force them to conform, there's a not-so-subtle difference.

I would say there's much of a difference when between the two when you taking about getting a job.

I feel that there are some words missing in this post.

Communists: conform and get a job.
French: integrate and get a job.

I don't see how the difference matters in this situation.

Really, you can't see a difference between the two methods? Unbelieveable. It's about trying to force someone conform and abusing them when they don't. When I was a kid I was told that wasn't the way to make friends, apparently no one bothered to mention it to the French.

From what I can tell, by the responses of someone who lives there (mattyb), they don't care if these people are trying to find work or not, they're simply persecuting and forcefully ejecting all of them. Do those broad-brush tactics sound fair to you?

We're not talking about making friends. We're talking about enforcing the moral and legal tenants of a society. Thats funny from what mattyb posted I understand that crime spikes in their immediate vicinity. You can't help people contribute to a society if they wish to maintain their current society which is direct conflict with yours. I know some people are very sensitive to racism. This isn't because their Roma. It's because they're criminals. If any of them did what mattyb did and get a job then they probably wouldn't get deported.

I'm talking about friends, being good neighbors, trying to help people fit in by not being a douchebag. You understand that people steal when they're starving and have no money, and they have no money because no one will give them work because of who they are, right? **** that. Ever been hungry enough to steal? Me either, but my wife has. Why? Because of what she is (half gypsy with a distrusted last name). Interesting how that worked out for her, and where she is now. How has she dealt with that reversal of fortune? She owns her own successful business and spends 20+ hours each week helping people who are underprivileged, because she remembers. I think if everyone spent a month on the street, without money or a home, it would help them to find some clarity and compassion.

No point posting Blaze. Shaddim has no idea what it means to live in an area with a local Gypsy camp. The Gypsies don't try and integrate or make friends (like Shaddim wants the French to do).

I live in a small town (less than 3000) with Germans, Spanish, Algerians, Irish and an Eastern European fixit-man. Nobody complains about their behaviour, yet thousands of people across many different countries complain about Gypsies. But according to Shaddim, it's not the Gypsies' fault - its the fault of all those countries that don't want them.

and you have no idea what it's like to grow up as one and be hated, distrusted, and abused. Works both ways, bud. Perpetuating racism doesn't benefit you or them.

That's the problem with trying to discuss US policy with foreigners who are only here to argue. We take these issues to heart, because this is our country and we love it, they're here for the entertainment value.

I hope this isn't me your trying to paraphrase? If it was what you're looking for is "I have no problem with anyone who isn't a criminal.

Look at the Amish. They definitely have't integrated into society. The biggest issues we have with them is the slow vehicle signs you need at a minimum to drive on the roads.

And yet you live in a country with strict immigration laws that do just what the French are doing? The problem the French have is that the EU transparent borders policy means that anyones trouble makers are everyones trouble makers.

I was pointing out how the refrain is old, only the subject has changed.

My country's immigration policy disgusts me, and I've gone on record with that multiple times. We should be ashamed.
