Digitizing VHS
I just finished digitizing a 20+ year old home movie from VHS from a (barely functioning) VCR via an EyeTV HD.

The quality is better than I'd feared, but it still has that soft, faded quality of an old videotape.

Any recommendations for software for processing the video? It doesn't need real repair, and since this is a single video, I'm not looking to spend big money on a pro-level app.

Have you looked at the filters in iMovie?

I didn't see anything in the Filters that really do much for this specific issue, either Inspector>Video or Inspector>Clip>video effect, especially regarding the softness issue.

I was thinking of the faded colors and the "hard light" filter.

For contour softness, there may be something like the sharpening filters in photoshop out there, but I suspect that you're not going to be very successful. VHS ain't broadcast Betacam.

The hard light filter seems to just unnaturally saturate and muddy the colors--at least in my case.

I'm not looking to transform VHS into high-def, but I'd like to at least try to get it closer to VHS-standard/new.
