Here I am, trying to add some contacts to a new AIM screen-name in iChat. I can sucessfully add a person to my buddy list. They appear for about half a second, and then a dialog pops up:

When I click 'OK', the buddy disappears from the list. I have tried this with many buddies, all the same result. I have also tried deleting any form of iChat preferences, quitting and restarting iChat, logging in and out, restarting and repairing permissions.

Interestingly enough, my other AIM account works fine and can add/remove buddies at will.

Ideas?

I thought this was an error relating to trying to go over the max amount of buddies on your "Buddy List" (150)...however, that can't be possible it sounds like...

Well from my Googling, I found that a feedbag error 17 seemed to indicate too many buddies in a list. Couldn't find anyone who had come across a feedbag error 10.

Damn those good for nuffin' feedbags.

Have you used this account using AIM on a PC by chance?

Quite possibly, yes. It's quite an old account, that I have rarely used. However I probably have used it on a PC before - does that make a difference?

Try logging on using AIM on a PC and see if you have "Recent Buddies" group on there? If so, get rid of that group and try adding buddies through iChat again...
