How Much Memory for 9.2.2?

I have a iMac 400 DV SE that came with 128MB or ram. I just added 512MB additional memory for a total of 640. I also just down loaded IE 5.1.6 and was having issues with not enough memory allocation for certain sites like ifilms.com. So in fixing that problem I noticed that before adding the memory the OS used about 30MB and now afterward it is using around 108MB. Is that normal? Why is it now using so much memory? I am thinking of installing 10.2 OS and wonder between the two how much ram do they use. Tks.

The OS is the only bit of OS 9 that can dynamically grab memory, and the more memory you have the more it grabs - although 108mb to keep OS 9 running smoothly is a bit of a joke!

It should give it back if other apps need it.

With those other apps like IE, you'll need to go to Get Info in the Finder and manually set how much memory they grab. Now you have 640mb, you can double or treble IE's memory if you want....
