iBook boots to open firmware
iBook boots to open firmware

I could use some help please as I do not know what this means….

I have a iBook (Blue early model) when I boot it up screen reads as follows:

Apple PowerBook2, 1 1.4f2 BootRom Built on 12/17/99

Welcome to Open Firmware.

To continue booting, type “mac-boot” and press return
To shut down, type “shut-down and press return.

that is what the screen looks like any ideas.

Will the machine start normally if you type mac-boot?
There's the usual list of things to do, like zapping the PRAM. To do this, hold down Command+Option+P+R keys at startup until you hear the Mac chime three times.
Since you have a portable, I believe you can reset your power manager, but I'm not sure how to do this.
Have you recently did an OS update or added RAM?
