airport in os9

have just gone back into os 9 on my 12"iBook and was tryin to set it all up properly but when i came to airport setup assistant it went all wrong.

the list of options on the first page came up:
1.join current

2.set up a base station

3.set up your computerto be a software base station

it is locked on the third option so somethins rong i saw some text sayin if option wanted isnt there i may be out of range of the base station wierd as in os x 5 mins ago it was fine and it is sittin next to the iMac with excelent reception so i took it up and put it right next to the base station they were acctually touchin.

i no i have rambled on but i feel the problem needs adressin so any help is much appreciated
