Please help! Sound manager problem
Hi there. I'm running Mac OS 9.04 on a G4/400. I recently began getting an error message on start-up (complete with the "bomb" graphic) the states "Not enough memory available while using sound manager." It then asks me to restart or shut down. I have also received this message in regards to Mac Easy open.

I have 192 megs of ram, so I'm assuming this is not actually a memory problem. When I disable these extensions everything works fine. I was content with this workaround, but have recently downloaded iMovie. When I try to open it, I get the message "iMovie cannot be opened because SoundLib-Sound ConverterSet Info" is missing."

I'm curious if this is related to the Sound Manager extension problem.

I've tried reinstalling iMovie and the system software (not a clean install however), and just installed the latest version of Quicktime. Nothing seems to help.

Any suggestions? I obviously know very little about troubleshoooting my mac, and any help you could give would be wonderful! Thanks in advance.

usually it is a good idea to start your troubleshooting by deleting the pref's file of whatever is misbehaving, in this instance i'd delete the Sound Preferences file and restart and rebuild my desktop using TechTool 1.2.1 freeware available HERE

I had the same problem (bomb) after having installed Quicktime 4.1 (US English) on to my iMac which uses the French OS. Turns out I had two sound manager extensions (one called "gestionnaire son". As soon as the older file was deleted, everthing was fine.
