Zapping the Parameter Ram basically resets to default certain core settings on your mac such as monitor, network settings, date and time, etc... here is a link to an Apple TIL that might help explain it a little better (or you can also do a search of Apple's support page for more info...) Zapping PRAM

while were on the subject . . .

I just zapped my parameter ram b/c my system was acting funky and crashing out of IE regularly. I'm not getting the crashes anymore, but I lost my ram disk. Is there any way to "get it back" without creating a new one??? Thanks. T.

The loss of a RAM disk is normal after zapping pRAM. Just go back to the memory control panel and make another one.
