iMac won't boot - HD spins repeatedly
I am not familiar with Macs, but a friend has one that won't boot. When you turn it on it makes a spinning noise for a second, pauses, then the exact noise again.

Try booting off the System CD - put it in and hold down the C-key when you turn on the computer.
If it does load, then it's probably a software problem on the hard drive (corrupt system or whatever).
If it doesn't load, that is, if it still has the spinning sound and doing nothing, then it's probably a hardware problem, which is proably gonna be expensive to fix.
