Remote Access answering feature
I am running OS 9.0.4 on a Lombard 400 MHz and got the answering feature in the Remote Access control panel to work--first try. I especially like the feature to allow access to the rest of the network. Just by dialing into the laptop, I can "see" the whole office's network through the Chooser on my computer at home--this includes the Windows NT network drives, and all the printers and other Macs on the network . Somewhat reminiscent of DAVE software. My question is this: Is there a way to do this over the internet using TCP/IP? It would be much faster instead of using a 56K modem because the computer at home is primarily hooked via cable modem. Don't get me wrong though. I am not talking about File Sharing over TCP/IP. I want to actually "see" the office's network in my remote computer's Chooser--not just the laptop's shared drive.

I think your only solution might me AppleshareIP. But it's kinda costly, and I don't know if it works in this case. If all the other comps run OS 9, and there's no problem with a firewall, you could share over TCP/IP.
Or if you want the rest of the network, like printer and NT drives, check out They built the filesharing over TCP/IP and Apple liscened it for OS 9. They might have a much cheaper version than AppleshareIP.

if you can connect via IP from home, all you need is the IP Address for the other resources on the network, and then just type it in directly in the chooser.
of course, if the network at work is appletalk only, not IP...
