Umm... I thought it was 2 terabytes under OS 9...
Certainly isn't 2 gigs, as I had a 7 gig disk image until about a week ago.

whats up lon? thanks for your postings.

ok, here is the issue, both replies are "right" but also not fully answering my question, so let me rephrase it with some explinations first. (2 terrabytes is the total storage limit but not file size limit)

there are two file schemes in mac os, hfs and hfs+, under hfs mac is limited to 2 gig files and hfs+, according to apple specs is something like 21gigs a file, though i am not sure, the website says 2to the 63bytes.

Now i work at the stanford linear accelarator center in streaming media, and file size limitations are a big issue. we mostly use windows machines, nt and 2000, which are limited to 2-4 gig file size. Obviously a mac, with 21 gig limit, would be more than idea for saving long lectures, 2 hours dv to prepare for streaming, etc.

It seems to me that hfs+ is what is on many new G4s,ImacDvs, etc but is this the case?
I have noticed, in the past, some issues about conflicts between hfs+ and final cut, and other dv/video apps. So my question is, how pervasive, how reliable is hfs+? (and does it really support upto21gigs?)

thanks all!

Nathan

call me, nate... i have no phone number on you since you moved... can discuss this

short answer: HFS+ rocks and is a rock... any HD using OS 8.0 and up can use HFS+
