Firewire lost in 9.1 on a dual boot mac
our school bought 11 ibooks (new type) and 11 imacs and the firewire ports on all are not showing in 9.1 but boot in 10 and they are mysteriously there. Any ideas anyone? :(

Are all your firewire extensions in place in 9.1? Firewire Enabler and Firewire Support I think are what's needed.

Yup, the firewire enabler and firewire support are there and active as are the quicktime firewore extensions. The firewire ports do not show up in Apple System profiler but are fine in OSX. A 9.1 only mac is fine but all the 9.1 / OSX dual boots are the same.

Help

I don't know what else to suggest, Simon. I've checked on my G4, which has 9.1 and X, and the profiler in 9.1 says that there are no devices on the bus unless I have something turned on, but it does show that there's a firewire bus. I've looked in the Apple knowledge base, but have found nothing that addresses your problem. I'd call Apple and see what they have to say. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful :(
