External hard drive read only problem in FCP
I have an external hard drive hooked up via USB to my MacBook Pro, when I do get info it says it is read and write for the administrator ( which is me) and read for guests etc.

When I try to set it up as a scratch disk in Final Cut Pro (FCP) it says I can't do it because the drive is read only.

Any ideas what the problem is, and how to fix it?

ok I sorted out my own problem via googling.

I did the get info function (command i) for the drive, and then down the very bottom of the screen I had to tick "Ignore ownership on this volume" (it had previously been unticked), once I ticked that voila! it was now writeable.

Good to know! I've had this issue with Final Cut and external drives before.
